[ Episode 11: Your Front ]

Fuck yeah, shota god. You actually did something cool for once. And whoa, an actual fight scene between Kyousuke and that other guy. It was pretty short, but sweet nonetheless. But where the fuck did Touka come from? Did Hige (the bearded guy) seriously drive all the way back to the Chamber of Elders to pick her up because she was worried? It’s like the writers are forcing her screen time for the big finale.

I didn’t really get the whole Tokyo Tower thing. Did Enjin just decide to go for a stroll or was that actually relevant to the plot? Well whatever the case, he’s doing his thing now with the Nana-gou finally blooming and all. Good thing Hime managed to fully recover and get a weapon upgrade just in the nick of time. Final episode here we go!

[ Episode 12: Sakura Petals Flutter ]

Fuckkkk. Touka was actually involved in the combat this episode. I see why the writers brought her in, albeit forced. Have to say I thought the whole 3 vs 1 thing was cheap. Screw team work.

A big lol wut @ Hime’s dragon lance.. doing…. ummm.. that thing with the Nana-gou. You know… Because I don’t. I had the same wtf face as Enjin when the whole Nana-gou problem was solved with the increase of fabulous in that lance.

The animation quality was at the series’ best. Looked very nice, though the action sequences were pretty meh. The epilogue was pretty laid-back, but unsatisfying. I feel like the characters are the same as they were in the beginning of the show. I know there was development in the series (I watched it afterall), but it wasn’t carried over in the ending. Like they had character development with the episodes featuring Kotoha just for the sake of having character development.

[ Final Thoughts ]

Story: 5/10
There wasn’t really a theme with this and I feel they should’ve emphasized the youkai/human relationship more. A lot of the youkai/human conflict stemmed from omg youkai abuse. They had a unique setting so it’s a shame they didn’t make use of it better. One of the plot elements was Akina having to choose between Gin or the town. It was pretty intriguing at first but they dwelled too much on it and it ended up becoming annoying. You basically won’t watch this for the story and there will be a lot of lol wuts which don’t get explained.

Cast: 7/10
The cast had potential and was probably at its best during the slice of life moments. When the plot kicks in, everybody loses their charm to revert to character archetypes. The main villain and his sidekick were pretty shallow and their defeats were pretty shallow as well so I guess it fit. Hime is still mai waifu though. Tsun tsun dere tsun dere tsun tsun~

Animation: 7/10
Decent overall. After seeing sola, I was expecting a lot more from Nomad. Most of the fights were lackluster so it didn’t get to shine there. One of the reasons I was attracted to the show was the character designs. I don’t what it is exactly, but to me they look really nice and have a warm feeling to them.

Music: 8/10
Catchy OP and pleasant ED. Very interesting choice of BG music which features a lot of guitar rock. One song that particularly stood out was “DON’T HAVE ANSWERS” which really fit well with its scenes. Even if you didn’t like the show itself, chances are you’ll still check out the great and unique OST. I recommend “TELL ME I’M ALIVE”.

Enjoyment: 7/10
If somebody were to ask me if he/she should watch Yozakura Quartet, my response would probably be “Sure, if you have nothing else to watch.” It’s not bad, though in particular it’s not good. Like I’ve said before, it’s decent. If you’re bored and looking to kill time with a short series, Yozakura Quartet will keep you entertained for the time being.

[ Overall series review: 64/100*]

*Note: Not an average.

The more we delve closer to the finale, the more I lose interest in this show. If I were to sum up my thoughts about this episode into one word, that word would be: meh. I honestly don’t really care what’s happening right now because it’s not interesting nor do I understand what’s happening. What’s with the giant white blobs? Did Enjin set them free to cause trouble for the lulz? And I won’t even comment on their design. -_- It’s a pity that I didn’t even feel anything when Hime started crying. It was supposed to be an emotional, but I got nothing. I’m sorry, Hime.

I lol’d when that random civilian shouted out that the quartet is supposed to be their protectors. Entrusting a couple of teenagers with the huge responisibility to manage and protect a town full of hundreds is pretty much always a bad idea. Aren’t there adult yokai out there strong and responsible enough to do that job? I can understand Hime and Akina’s roles, but they’re still just kids. I wonder how Kotoha and Ao got dragged into in that mess.

Well we got 2 more episodes left (1 if you’re not behind like I am). And it seems like the finale will be decent at best the way things are going now. Even with all the negative things I said, the show isn’t by any means terrbile. Just borderline average.

Holy shit @ Touka. Why the hell doesn’t she fight with everybody else? She looks like she could be fucking top tier in this series. As a side character, she’s a bit too boring with having only an Akina infatuation and her siscon brother to bring out her personality.

Also lol it seems to me that Gin’s possession was kinda random. Like they were all walking together, then all of sudden, fucking Enjin comes in your base, possessing your friends. Also I noticed that the fabulous wardrobe choice was on Gin’s part lol. On that note, the reason why Enjin chose Gin is still a mystery. It’s been hinted that Gin knew about it beforehand so therefore he was chosen for a reason. Hopefully it’s a really cool twist. The plot is dull so far. Enjin’s resolution towards creating a yokai-only society felt kinda weak.

And what’s with that old guy? He randomly came into the room, forcing himself into the convo during the hospital scene. Was he fucking eavesdropping on them? Anyways, that bitch needs to stop looking down on Hime because she’s about to save the town and rape Enjin.

I like how the shota god doesn’t really do anything. He just stands there, being a shota.

Even with so much happening, I thought this was the weakest episode so far. I mean even with the Nana-gou blossoming, you never feel a real sense of impending doom. As the weird mushy roots grow and take root of the town, instead of “whoa” I was like “lol ok”. It’s a bit hard to take this show seriously. It shined the most to me with its slice of life moments. The plot-related stuff has been pretty weak so far.

The fights… decent. Lot of owning by the bad guys, not really much to see. I was hoping the nun was going to get in there and kick some ass. Though she just got in one stab and kinda left it at that. The shota god just sat there looking cool. Hope he actually does something later.

It’s funny. Looking at these screenshots, the episode looks pretty damn exciting. Preview for the next doesn’t look too interesting either. At least, Hime got a flashy rainbow spear throughout all of this.

The vampire loli make a return with the appearance of some other guy who the show didn’t even bother to introduce. It’s like he’s been with the cast this entire time so it was a bit weird seeing him hang out with them.

Fights galore in the next one so I’m expecting a fairly exciting episode if they pull it off right. The fight scenes so far have been a bit lackluster. I’m hoping Akina won’t just be a bystander; he needs to get in there and exorcise some bitches.

Don’t forget to grab the OST which was just released today courtesy of Nipponsei. There was no sign of tsuntsun dere unfortunately. Let’s pray to the Nana-gou for a character cd in the future~

I’m not seeing what the big deal is being half youkai, half human. It didn’t seem like it was a racial thing like because you’re part youkai/human, but more like it was because you were in between. Well the whole thing was resolved rather quickly by Hime and the cliché “you are who you are” speech.

I wish they would do more of those omakes at the end of episodes. Those are really fun to watch. I lol’d when Kotoha brought somebody back from the dead while trying to study.

So we hit the halfway point already and it looks like we’ll be moving away from the character centered episodes now. There isn’t much of a plot still and this show is obviously character driven so I’m hoping they’ll be able to tie the last half up nicely.
