[ Episode 24: The Green Hills of Terra ]

Thus the end has come for Toward the Terra. While the final episode wasn’t filled with high-energy it was more than a satisfying end for such a wonderful series. It was really sad seeing the deaths of characters that have been around since the beginning. Jomy, Keith, Leo, and the Mu Elders’ deaths really hit me and I could feel the tears forming with ease. However, none of their deaths were in vain. They did it all so that the younger generation can continue on with both the Mu and Humanity coming together.

It was so great to see the Mu and Humanity finally working together at the end. It first started off with Jomy and Keith taking down one part of Grand Mother which caused a domino effect of Mu and Humans all around the galaxy to start destroying network hubs of Grand Mother. They finally took a stand to decide things on their own instead of having a cold and uncaring machine delegate their lives. In the end though, the message Toward the Terra left with us is that you should always think of the younger generation, your children, when your goal is to change the future. Sacrificing one’s self for them shouldn’t be something you need to even think about for a second as proven by all of the deaths that occurred in this episode and which was particularly reinforced when the Elders teleported the human children and Physis to the Shangri-La.

Lastly, I felt a huge rush of emotions flood my body when I saw the final scenes of the series with the now revitalized Terra. I may cry too much but one could not watch this series and then see those final shots of a beautiful planet without at least feeling the urge to cry. That beautiful blue planet is one that should never have to lose it’s radiance ever again.

[ Final Thoughts ]

Another great show has ended and I’m going to miss this one. Initially I wanted to watch this because it was a remake of a show from a decade that had some rather interesting stories emerge from it and figured I’d love to see how it would do in the present. Truth be told, Toward the Terra started out rather rough for me with the earlier episodes not being as absorbing as they could have been. That all changed quickly though as Jomy wasted no time in moving from a whiny brat to steadily developing into a young man who chose to accept himself as a Mu after denying it so fervently in his earlier days. From there it’s a marvelous journey with a wonderful cast of characters who are developed so well all accompanied by times of politics, peace, war, death, struggle, and finally, unification as one body of people. The messages this show left me with are quite memorable and even made me think even more about the future of my own children (well, when that time comes actually) and what I would sacrifice just so that they can live a much better life than me.

In conclusion, Toward the Terra is one of the most memorable experiences of this year for me and joins the ranks of my favorite shows that have ended so far this year, those being CODE GEASS, Soukou no Strain, Reideen, and Gurren Lagann. Do yourself a favor and give Toward the Terra a watch. I personally feel that you won’t regret investing your time into this epic tale.

[ Episode 23: To Earth ]

Surprisingly enough, it seems the ending episodes of Toward the Terra won’t be filled with all-out action like the previous two were. Instead negotiations are being held between the Mu and Humanity. The best part of this episode that managed to make me react in the same way Jomy and the rest of the Mu is when they saw Terra; Earth in such a deteriorated state. It’s painful to see such a beautiful planet end up in such a state and it makes me think about how much people in real life don’t understand just how blessed we are to have such a wonderful planet. Anyway, after seeing the negotiations weren’t going no where Jomy and Keith go to see the Grand Mother where Jomy also finds out that Sam had passed away. I was surprised at how massive the Grand Mother computer was at the very end of the episode. I’m not sure I can even comment on how large the place is that the computer resides. With only one episode left I can only hope that Toward the Terra ends strong and is not rushed. It’s one one hell of a ride so far and despite not seeing the ending yet I can definitely say that Toward the Terra ranks extremely high up there as one of the absolute best series to have aired in the year 2007.

Holy shit! This episode is so good that you’d better have watched it before reading this as major spoilers are ahead. This is yet another one of those episodes that will blow you away as it did to me. First thing’s first: Sam passed away. It was pretty sad hearing that but at least he looked at peace. Tony manages to get on board of Keiths’ ship while Zel and the rest of the Types Blue save the station hovering above Jupiter. Meanwhile, Tony locates Keith and strangles him to unconsciousness. Matsuka comes rushing in to “avenge” Keith and tries to fend off Tony. Tony then decides to kill off Keith but Matsuka shields him at the last second. Yup. Matsuka is now dead and Keith is revived thanks to his flashes of Sam, Shiroe and of course Matsuka. Tony is now feeling horrible because he killed one of his kind. I understand his feelings but there was nothing else that could be done since Matsuka chose it upon himself to protect Keith. It wasn’t until his last moment that he was finally recognized by Keith and his fellow comrades. Even so, the battle must go on

This episode was absolutely freaking awesome! Things are set up nicely for a great finale and are continuing forward. In the battle so far a lot of the battleships of the humans have been destroyed but unfortunately three Type Blues have died and in that number was Artella who loved Tony as much as she possibly could. Her death lead to Tony destroying countless numbers of ships before Jomy stopped him in fear of him destroying himself. Now with the Mu seemingly with the upper hand Keith is now threatening Jomy that he will kill the captured Mu and his parents by dropping the facility they’re in onto Jupiter. He has yet to respond but Tony is shown to be extremely pissed after seeing the man who is responsible for Artella’s death. Damn, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

[ Episode 20: The Night Before the Final Battle ]

This episode was pretty intense even without action. Even so this is more of a angry calm before the storm episode. Keith climbed to the top as a Senator now is now Commander-in-Chief of humanity. Of course his plans are to eliminate the Mu race but Jomy isn’t about to sit back and allow that to happen even with their new technology against psionic waves. Grand Mother has yet again intrigued me as she seems to be quite eager to help Keith accomplish his plan. I have to wonder if she’s just a living computer or a real woman. I also have to laugh at the stupidity of the humans in this episode who thought becoming a Mu was a disease of some sort. It just goes to show you how easily a mass of idiots can be manipulated with time and a few words. There’s also Leticia who was the new child of Jomy’s parents who is now identified as a Mu. As a result of this they both stood up to protect her. The mother remembered what happened to Jomy all those years ago which I found to be quite emotional. I do wonder what will happen to them now though.

[ Episode 19: Each in His Place ]

With only five episodes left the ride is surely going to be an exciting one. We’ve been given a lot of information in this one episode that ended the small arc. One of the biggest twists is that Physis isn’t a Mu but a human who was given powers by Blue and thus her powers left her when he died. Tony also blames her for the death of his mother. We also find out about Keith’s origin and how he and Physis were experiments that Mother Eliza conducted in an effort to create the perfect human.

Interestingly enough, both Jomy and Keith end up destroying their birthplaces. Jomy seems to have done it to not only obtain the coordinates of Terra but to put to rest his past. Keith seems to have done it as a mission as revealed at the end of the episode when we seem him speaking to Grand Mother. Things are going to be really rough now since Grand Mother states that phase two of the plan to eradicate the Mu can now be set in motion. What could this mean? How are they going to accomplish this? What will happen to Tony and the rest of the children? We’ll find out soon enough as there are only five episodes left!
