Haha. This episode was pretty hilarious. I didn’t expect to see Pokota teaming up with Zel and Amelia. Speaking of Amelia, she gets totally drunk off the word justice. Zel in his hilarious evil-mode is just too awesome to ignore. I really hope I get to see more of him doing stuff like that in future episodes. Lina and Gourry were just as entertaining even though their airtime was shorter than it was compared to the previous episodes. I loved how they created a fake mage-tank to lure Pokota and practically destroyed the city they were in. Hell, even Amelia is responsible for some portion of the damage done! All in all, this episode didn’t really do anything for the story except reveal that Zel was previously human (though I suppose that may have been mentioned before in the previous series’) and is looking for a way to cure himself. Even so, it was extremely fun and not a single boring moment. This is how action, adventure, and comedy should be done: Old-school!

There’s been quite a frequent referral to Ruvinagald over the past two episodes. I’m willing to guess that this means that there will be some kind of war/conflict involving them in future episodes. That’s one of the biggest things that was hinted at in this episode aside from the excellent outtakes and beatings Lina is known to hand out. That silly inspector apparently isn’t as stupid as he looks…or at least that’s what the ending of the episode suggests when Lina approaches him about the matter of him always trying to arrest her and failing. Next episode will have Pokota and it looks as if the whole crew will be trying to capture him now.

If there’s one thing that keeps on hitting so far, it’s the humor. There were so many funny moments during this episode and I especially loved the scenes between Lina and Pokota. As a whole the cast is really growing on me fast and Lina is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters of all-time. I’m really going to have to see more of her in the previous series now. Going back to Pokota, it seems that he could be a powerful person trapped in an animal’s body. The only thing that I have to support that is when he said he didn’t choose to have such a tiny body. Of course that could mean nothing but it’s fun to speculate, especially this early in the series. It’s hard to tell where the story is going at the moment, particularly since this is my first Slayers show, but I’m enjoying the journey so far.

[ Episode 1: AMAZING The Surprising Dragon Slave!? ]

I know that I haven’t been updating the blog regularly and I apologize to the KZI readers. I mentioned before that I started a new job some time ago and that it sapped away a lot of my free time and I could barely manage to reallocate the time I usually had for blogging. Thankfully I’ve managed to work out an appropriate schedule so do bear with me until I settle into it (meaning I’m hoping to get my entries/thoughts out a day or less after an episode is released raw or subbed). That said, I think I’m going to discontinue blogging a few of the shows with the exception of Code Geass R2 and one or two others I haven’t decided on yet (this doesn’t include the usual shounen stuff). This is so that I can start off my new schedule on a clean slate. So if you don’t see an update for a certain show in the next few weeks then I probably dropped it (blogging-wise). With that out of the way, on with my first new show of the season: Slayers REVOLUTION!

This is my very first Slayers show. I’ve actually planned to watch the others long ago and after seeing this first episode I think I’m going to move them way up my watch-queue. At first I was worried about not knowing of past events and such slightly hesitated on picking this up until I watched at least one or two of the older series.

Luckily for me, Revolution’s presentation suggests that prior knowledge or viewing of the past series isn’t necessary to enjoy it. I’d agree 100% as I found myself laughing and wowing at all thing things Lina and her friends got themselves into. The comedy feels so natural which is a welcome change to recent shows that try to force their laughs. I particularly cracked up during Lina’s beating of the pirates and the ending scenes in the city. Don’t get me started on the being wanted for being Lina Inverse bit. I thought I was going to die there!

As for the animation, I love it. J.C. Staff captured the classic 90’s atmosphere flawlessly and it really suits the type of show this is: crazy action and comedy. The music accompanies the action and everything else very well. Speaking of which, I’m really loving the OP and ED songs. They’re pretty catchy and I look forward to their singles in the future. The main characters are all lovable, particularly Lina, and together they form a wonderful cast I’m going to enjoy traveling with as the series progresses.

If you like your comedy old-school and natural with plenty of awesome action, then Slayers Revolution (and I assume all the past series) is definitely for you. In my opinion, it’s hard to not love this show given it’s great start. That said, I’m looking forward to more and more episodes!
