[ Episode 3: Flaky and Fluffy, Leave it to Su! ]

LOL! This episode was unbelievable! On top of Su hatching (and pulling a Mission Impossible reference at an opportune time) and causing a huge wave of dough to wipe out almost everyone we got to see Tadase’s true self. His true self is activated when you call him a “prince” and then he turns into a “evil” King whose dream is world domination! AWESOME! XD At the very end of the episode Amu, much to everyones and her surprise, is announced as the newest member of the Guardians: Joker. Technically that’s an awesome title to have bestowed upon you depending on the circumstances. In Amu’s cause she can totally pull it off with her COOL AND SPICY persona. In other words, she’s the ultimate trump card that anyone can hope for especially with her kickass attitude, three Guardian Charas, and the ability to character change in an instant.

Behold! Amu The Joker!

I looooooove this show so much! There’s an endless amount of “FUN FUN FUN!” stuffed into Shugo Chara that always manages to overwhelm me. This episode was no different. Along with Amu being invited into the Guardians we get to see some mysterious bishie Egg-guy who turned the third grader’s heart egg (he’s from the first episode) into an X Egg, which is obviously a bad thing because it’s filled with all sorts of negativity. I loved seeing Amu’s character transformation though I understand where she’s coming from with feeling ridiculous at such changes in her character. XD Don’t get me started on her rejecting membership into the Guardians because of the capes. That was freaking hilarious! I can’t wait to see more, especially the hatching of the third Chara!

[ Episode 1: The Birth of Guardian Chara! ]

This is probably the most surprising show of the season for me to date.

In a way, this show scares me. Why you ask? This first episode left a bigger impression on me than most of the stuff that I’ve blogged/watched so far of the fall season. When I first looked at this show I didn’t know what to expect and only went into it with the knowledge that Peach Pitt was behind the manga. The main character, Hinamori Amu, lured me in with her bright features and welcoming aura on the promotional material I saw and had to remind myself not to touch the manga. It’s a good thing I didn’t read it because I don’t think I would have been taken by surprise as much as I did.

Amu’s character is refreshing to me for reasons that aren’t too clear other than I like the way she slips between her outer and inner characters. Her seiyuu, who seems to be new to the business, did a wonderful job with the various expressions and situations that presented themselves in the episode, particularly when she was in her outer-goth girl character. Seeing her struggle between being the person she is outside and her true self is a sight to see and its quite enjoyable to see her mess up here and there. I also liked the way her outer personality began as a simple misunderstanding, lol. Now that she has her eggs starting to hatch things are get even a lot more interesting with her being able to “Character transform”. The Four Guardians are looking to be decent characters as well though I’m more interested in the Queen of the group for now. Also the bishie catboy is hilarious. He seems to be quite powerful and is cunning but there’s just something about him that makes me not able to take him seriously at least half of the time.

The OP and ED songs were great. They’re quite upbeat and matches the mood and colors of Shugo Chara! perfectly. The animation is slick and crisp and better-looking than a few shows out this season and the music is very pleasant to the ears. Shugo Chara! and more specifically, Amu, left a great impression on me. I’m not sure what age range this show is aimed at but personally it doesn’t matter to me. It’s a really good show and has the potential to become a very great one from what I’ve seen so far. This is definitely a show to look out for as the season progresses.
