Reideen ep. 6

[Episode 6: Bird becomes God]

[Enjoyment Value: 9/10]

[Thoughts]

Damn that episode was awesome. Despite Junki being concerned about being the pilot of Reideen I’m glad he got some advice. Though I really wasn’t expecting an ESP demonstration from Hana at all. That said she’s even freaking cooler than before (and hawter :P). I have to say that God Bird is interesting. Though…I’d like to know how he knew about it…unless Reideen suggested it to him in his thoughts before or during the battle? One thing I was wondering about constantly was Akira in this episode. When Junki saw her in the classroom she looked pretty sad and then later at the end of the episode she giggled. I wonder why that is? I know what I’ve said about her in previous entries so maybe she knows Reideen thoughts/Junki’s role as the pilot (which I think is pretty much known by her already) or something to that effect? Well, whatever the reason, I hope we get some more clues in the episodes to come.

Reideen ep. 5

[Episode 5: White Herons Assemble]

[Enjoyment Value: 8/10]

[Thoughts]

This was a pretty nice episode. The beginning was pretty funny with Maedasaki forcing Junki to work at his company and providing him with an escort. They actually followed the guy everywhere! Although we had little Akira appearances in this episode it’s still nice to see that she’s at least puzzling Junki for now. Also, Junki should be a little more nice to Shiori from time to time. She seems to be the closet thing to a best friend to him but given the way she behaved in the previous episode I think it’s safe to say she cares a lot about the guy. I’ve also come to the conclusion that those Jin-Rai units are completely useless in offensive battles. I mean really, it took three of them to just push over the alien giant and they still didn’t beat it. Though, I am pissed at the military. What’s with these top brass officiers and their habit to cover their own asses through the sacrifice of another? To go so far as to shoot missiles at Reideen because they didn’t want the public to find out that they’re basically worthless? That’s just pathetic. Well, I hope that in the next episode Junki shows them how it’s done as it seems as if he’ll be getting a wing upgrade next for Reideen. :P

Reideen ep. 4

[Episode 4: Fighting the Shadow]

[Enjoyment Value: 8.5/10]

[Thoughts]

Very nice action episode. That alien that was after Junki and his pal was pretty freaky. It seemed to be after the tablet with the unknown characters since after it got crushed the plate was found. I have to wonder if they are more plates like that around that grants Reideen weapon or even armor upgrades. God Wand seems to be used for finding enemies who’re hidden (probably not only for thermal cloaked ones). The God Sword is just for kicking ass which is a much welcomed substitute for Reideen’s fists in my opinion. Nothing really new here in terms of questions and mysteries like in the previous episdoe. Though one of the best things of the episode was actually getting to hear Akira speak. Oh, she sounds so divine. :P

Reideen ep. 3

[Episode 3: The Invisible Shadow]

[Enjoyment Value: 8/10]

[Thoughts]

Things are getting weirder. At the beginning of the episode, they showed some aliens hovering above the Earth. I suppose they’re responsible for the giants that appear on the planet. What is their purpose though? Hopefully it’s nothing as corny as them wanting to destroy the planet just for fun or rule it. The other, more pleasant occurrence is Akira. She’s quite beautiful but her mysterious-level is off the charts. I know that she’s connected to Reideen in some way but in what way? I have a few guesses such as she being a former pilot of Reideen or even being around at the time of its creation and thus apart of the civilization that made it. Though those are just wild guesses at the moment and I have nothing to back them up with at the moment. Also, given the scenes in the OP, I can only assume that Junki will fall in love with Akira. But, would that be a good or bad thing for him given that she’s not exactly “normal” nor doesn’t seem to be the kind of person to blurt out her secrets casually. Either way, I can’t wait to see more.

Reideen Ep. 2

[Episode 2: The Legendary Warrior]

[Enjoyment Value: 8.5/10]

I think this episode was even better than the first. This episode ends the introductory phase of the series and the real plot will start with the next episode.

Oh and did I mention there were zombies? Zombies!

[Episode 1: The Reborn Legend]

[Enjoyment Value: 8.5/10]

There was no way I could’ve ignored this series. I first found out about this when the remake was first announced some time ago. After hearing that Production I.G. would be involved I made sure that I’d be looking out for it. Well, now it’s here and the mecha fanboy in me is squealing. Yuusha Reideen, the original series, was the inspiration for the RahXephon (which in itself is one of the best mecha anime). So I couldn’t help but want to know exactly what RahXephon used for inspiration and to what extent it dedicated some of its plot points.

So does this remake does the original justice? Well, I can’t make that comparison but it certainly is impressive.
