Kekkaishi ep. 12

[Episode 12: Sealing of the Demon Dog Madarao]
[Enjoyment Value: 9.5/10]
[Thoughts]
Man, some serious power was being thrown around in this episode. I was completely unaware of Madarao being a poison user though I suppose there was never any indication to such a detail before. At least I don’t recall there being any clues in past episodes. Anyways, I felt sort of bad for Kouya near the end, especially since he was killed by his former best friend. Though, in the end I suppose that an end like that is the best kind.

[Episode 11: Kouya and Madarao]
[Enjoyment Value: 9/10]
[Thoughts]
Intense episodes like these always leave me feeling satisfied. I never knew Madarao could be so freaking awesome when unsealed. The battle between him and Kouya was one of the most epic since the series started. Of course, among all the seriousness there has to be some comedy and it comes in the form of how Madarao left Kouya to join Tokimura in the past because he was in love with the guy lol.
Those human-like ayakashi were hilarious to say the least but I feel that this will become more important to the plot later on. I’m sure there will be more ayakashi of that kind with a lot more power. I just hope that Yoshimori and Tokine are prepared for when such a time arrives.

[Episode 10: The Shikigami Chocolate Battle]
[Enjoyment Value: 9/10]
[Thoughts]
I laughed so hard while watching this episode. The entire thing with the Shikigami was just too priceless to resist, especially when he performed his special move. xD I was wondering if he had any power at all since he was getting kicked around my lame gangsters. The second part of the episode was even more hilarious. Tokine was terrified of a disgusting roach in her home and had to get Yoshimori to deal with the little bugger. I can sympathize with Tokine because I find those things really freaking digusting myself. >_<

[Episode 9: The Dangerous High School Teacher Shikigami Choco Battle]
[Enjoyment Value: 9/10]
[Thoughts]
Typical popular teacher who turns out to be anything but. It was interesting to find out that he himself wasn’t responsible for what was going on but rather it was some insect-like Ayakashi. Still though, he’s a person that they call “one’s with strange abilities”. Aside from that, it was good to see Yuri again in the episode. For some reason I really like the manner in which she speaks. It has a peculiar…cutness to it. I’m still not sure whether or not she likes Yoshimori or not but her friends believe that to be so. So far though, I can tell that she looks up to him and trusts him to protect her from “ghosts”.
Kekkaishi ep. 8

[Episode 8: Yoshimori-like Days]
[Enjoyment Value: 9/10]
[Thoughts]
Very awesome episode. There may not have been much in relation to plot progress but there was plenty of action. I tend to like episodes like this a lot since it usually shows a character’s growth in skill, strength, and experience. This episode shows that both Yoshimori and Tokine still have a lot to learn. Yoshimori, while possessing a lot of power and endurance still has to learn about things like focus and accuracy while Tokine’s situation is just the opposite. They combined each of their strengths to defeat the ice ayakashi which in my opinion was well executed.

[Episode 7: The Best Cake]
[Enjoyment Value: 8.5/10]
[Thoughts]
The confectioner from episode 5, Masahiko, returns and Yoshimori wants to take an active role in helping him pass on. Much of the episode is about helping Masahiko speak to his brother and in the end they manage to get the little brother to believe in their words via a special cake Masahiko once made when they were children. I was glad to see that he resolved everything with his little brother and was able to move on.

[Episode 6: Sakura at night in Karasumori]
[Enjoyment Value: 8/10]
[Thoughts]
It was about time Yuri had some spotlight. She’s been shown to have the ability to see what others can’t see for a while after all so I suppose it was only a matter of time. It was a pretty fun episode though despite there not being much of a fight other than Yoshimori and Tokine eliminating a bunch of weaklings. Yuri was pretty cute throughout the entire episode, even when she was crying! xD I wonder if she’ll develop feelings for Yoshimori? Hmm…it doesn’t seem so at the moment.

[Episode 5: A Confectioner's Ghost]
[Enjoyment Value: 8/10]
[Thoughts]
It’s been a while since I’ve watched an episode of Kekkaishi but luckily it’s one of those stories that’s able to keep a permanent place in my mind. That said, I still love both Tokine and Yoshimori as characters and this episode just raises it. I find Yoshimori’s passion for cakes hilarious yet inspiring. He’s not allowing himself to be just restricted to the role of Kekkaishi and that’s a good thing in my opinion. That and he can make loads of sweets for Tokine any time the occasion calls for it.
Much of this episode was a fun-feeling venture. Not really focusing on any plot but taking a look at Yoshimori and how he helps wandering ghosts. I liked the way he dealt with the old guy that was transforming. Instead of sealing him away he tried his best to get him to pass on by helping him remember what made him happy in his past life. Overall, it was a pretty nice feel-good episode. Speaking of “feel-good’ I’m still waiting on the first ED single to be released!

Impressions:
As I thought, Yomi wasn’t really as bad as she made herself to be. I had expected a story behind her actions and now I understand why she did what she did. Constantly being ridiculed and put down as a child by adults she seeked to gain more power for her ogre, Yomi. But because of the adults treating her bad she developed distrust for them. This would include Tokine’s father as well who was a good man. It’s a pity that at the end when they actually achieved the power that they seeked for (well, more accurately Yoki anyways) that Yoki decided he didn’t need his master anymore and went berserk and eventually got himself killed. Although I must say it was pretty heartwarming at the end when Yoki came back in super-mini form.

Impressions:
Man, either my eyes are warped or the animation for this series is just that outstanding. I can only hope the high quality stays constant. Anyways, this episode introduces us to a few scenes of Tokine’s past involving her father. He was a great Kekkaishi from what I can tell but sadly he died protecting his family one night. We also learn that Yoshimori’s mother is also a Kekkaishi but is often away performing her duties elsewhere. The new character, Yomi, is an ogre user who uses the cover of being on a mission of surveillance to stay in Tokine’s household for a while. However, her intentions were anything but pure as she quickly drugged Yoshimori during a night of patrol and then declares that she’ll be taking the land for herself. Yomi says all of this of course to Tokine while mentioning how much she despised her father. The episode ends with a cliffhanger of Yoshimori waking up and struggling to get free to help Tokine who is currently in danger of being crushed by Yomi’s ogre, Yoki. Somehow I don’t think Yomi is as bad as she makes herself seem to be. This is because of the preview for the next episode where she can be seen smiling with her ogre and being consoled by Tokine’s father in the past.
