Hayate no Gotoku! ep. 20

[ Episode 20: I Like Books, but Sing It, Great Submarine Castle ]
This was a pretty good episode and it continues the manga storyline (next episode is going to be from the manga yet again as well!). Hayate is thinking on an ultimate technique and is determined to learn one over summer vacation. References I spotted this week are: Saint Seiya, Kill Bill (or Game of Death), and Rurouni Kenshin among others. Maria was so awesome in that yellow suit. I wouldn’t mind seeing her kicking ass and taking names in that attire at all ^^;. One person I’m waiting to see in both the manga and anime is Himegami. He’s been referred to quite a few times. Scanlation-wise his character hasn’t been introduced properly yet. There is one guy in the OP that I don’t recognize so I guess that’s him.

[ Episode 19: Saki-san's Personal Business (National Ver.) 2007 ]
I found this episode to be quite amusing. Between the legendary meido, the robots using the Jet Stream attack, and Maria’s weakness to roaches, I had a great time laughing. I can partially relate to Maria though, I absolutely despite those disgusting things and huge thumbs-up to Isumi for exterminating it!
One thing that had me thinking was why did Hayate’s pendant activate when he tried to fight and seemingly robbed him of his fighting spirit. I don’t recall something like that happening in the manga unless it’s something that’s happened in volumes that aren’t translated yet.

[ Episode 18: The Rare Card is a Swimsuit ]
Nothing much really happened in this episode in terms of plot. It was pretty much filled to the brim with fanservice shots and a lot of references. I’m much too lazy to point them all out but I did notice the more obvious ones like Lancelot/Orange from CODE GEASS, the plane they flew on being similar to the Pokemon airplanes, and Hayate changing into a Super Saiyan. Overall, it was a good episode but the weakest one in terms of laughs so far.
Next week is the return to canon material dealing with Saki’s birthday.

[ Episode 17: For Your Sake I'll Give My Best Blasting Through Everything ]
An anime original episode. I found it to be pretty humorous though not on the level as most previous episodes. There were tons of references (ranging from Suzumiya Haruhi to Akagi and even to Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na) to pick up on as well. I’m sure I missed a few of them though. The scene that made me burst into laughter was when Yukiji came across the pot of [toxic] food Nagi had created and which Hayate hid (why the hell didn’t he just throw it out?). She then proceeded to eat some and caused her stomach to explode and then she fizzled out into the ground like soap. I laughed much harder at that than I should be doing so early in the morning.
Next episode should be something look forward to. Why? It’s a swimsuit episode!
