Dragonaut ep. 25 [END] + Review

[ Episode 25: Resonance -Echo to Eternity- ]

It took me a while to stop laughing before writing up this entry. Honestly, I was astounded by this episode and the finale. I can’t accurately put into words just how ridiculous everything was in this episode. I had feared the POWER OF LOVE was going to be used in the past two episodes but I had no idea it’d be this insane. What was the point of some of the things in here? Why did Nozaki have to sacrifice himself? It seemed pretty pointless to me. What the hell was that fight between Gio and Ostrum? Why did they suddenly start fighting upside-down with their legs like idiots? What was the purpose of using Garnet to stop Jin and Toa when all they had to do was make a sword of the POWER OF LOVE to get past her? Is it just me or was Mother/Thanatos suddenly realising ’she had been alone for too long’ far too convenient? I suppose the POWER OF LOVE was too much for her to bear.

Dragonaut ep. 24

[ Episode 24: Wrath -Disappearing Tomorrow- ]

Heh. So Garnet and Asim were used in the same way Machina and Akira was after all. It’s good to see them alive and well but they’re not the same persons but rather a part of Thanatos. I’m still wondering though if they’re going to take back their bodies though. It’s good to see that Gio is back on the good side (he is, right?) but I’m still not clear on why he did what he did in the first place. It all just seems pointless after what occurred in this episode. Is there something else he’s hiding concerning him accepting to be successor though? He has apparently abandoned that role after talking crazy prior to doing so.

In other news, Jin and Toa saved each other and were reunited thanks to the power of love! How else would they have stopped Toa from being absorbed? Surely not through brute strength or logistics. Now the final episode is all that’s left and I’m thinking the ending won’t be so hot. I’d like nothing more than to be proven wrong but given all that’s happened up till now optimism doesn’t seem to work with this series at all. So what’ll it be, a power of love ending or something else?

Dragonaut ep. 23

[ Episode 23: Falling -Sorrow and Hope- ]

What they did with Machina and Akira was rather surprising. I didn’t see them becoming vessels for Thanatos at all and while it is an interesting twist it is a rather painful one too to see their bodies used in that way. I’d like to see them take over their bodies again but I won’t get my hopes up for that to happen. Though that reminds me, what of Garnet and Asim? Will they be used in a similar way?

As for the Kazuki stuff in the episode, I was just shaking my head all the way through. After being a jackass antagonist for 20+ episodes, are we supposed to hurriedly accept him turning over a new leaf after he had witnessed Widow dying? Well, it didn’t work on me. Sure he has realized now what Jin had to go through after losing his parents and his sister but it took too damn long and on top of that he was treating Widow like crap even though she was visibly critically injured. Now I’m supposed to be all “awesome! Jin and Kazuki are buddies again! ^__^”? Naaaaaaaah, it doesn’t work like that. Well, the girls suddenly kicking ass in space was something quite unexpected! I didn’t see those kunai nor that frying pan coming from a mile away. :P

Oh well, RIP Widow. =(

Dragonaut ep. 22

[ Episode 22: Raid -Time of Trial- ]

Well now, this episode turned out better than the previous one despite being slow paced in the beginning. It looks like Sakaki’s stubborn mentally about dragons just being tools has been stomped on and buried. Though I’m still wondering about something…why the hell is Widow so devoted to Kazuki? Is it because they share some sadness? Is that all? If that’s the only reason then that’s a pretty shaky existence if you ask me. He hasn’t treated her with courtesy and I doubt he has ever thought about her well-being even once since he’s almost always thinking of killing Jin (don’t get me started on his feminine gasp in response to Widow slapping the hell out of Jin).

Lastly, what in the hell just happened at the end? Is that telling me that Machina and Akira are still alive? Did some of the writers think it’d be ironic and “punny” to pull a deus ex machina? Well, I have to give it to them for being able to pull it off because I surely thought those two were resting in peace. I’d like to see how they’ll contribute to these last few episodes.

Dragonaut ep. 21

[ Episode 21: Separation -The Successor- ]

So…Gio is now Thanatos’ successor. I don’t know what that is exactly but either surprisingly or unsurprisingly, he did it all just to save/extend Toa’s life. It feels odd because becoming the (main?) antagonist at this point in the story just feels somewhat forced. I don’t really know what to think outside of “okay, so what’s next for Gio?”. Anyway, this episode expand a little more upon Laura and Sakaki’s relationship. I didn’t expect Laura to be the final Original dragon either. Hopefully Sakaki gets some sense knocked into him if it hasn’t happened already as far as his behavior toward Laura goes. He needs to stop being a stubborn fool and accept that dragons are capable of love and other types of emotions.

Dragonaut ep. 20

[ Episode 20: Rescue -Severing Bonds- ]

I find it sort of funny how those watches that the Professor made didn’t get used. Perhaps they’ll serve some purpose in a future episode or be totally forgotten about. I’d say it’s about 50-50. Also, when did Laura (or should I call her Raum?) get to be so strong? Or is it just the suit that gives her an advantage? Though I guess it doesn’t matter at this point since her time seems to be almost up. I hope to find out more about her in the next episode since she’s been sort of a mystery for most of the series given that the only known thing about her is that she looks exactly like Sakaki’s daughter, Laura.

Dragonaut ep. 19

[ Episode 19: Family -A Fragment of Warmth- ]

This is pretty much just a build-up episode. Jin, Toa, and the others get to rest in a big mansion while Itsuki and Otohime get captured and sent to Tartarus. We see more signs of Toa approaching the end of her lifespan and apparently Laura is also feeling the same thing now. Of course Sakaki, being the bastard that he is, doesn’t seem to care and continues to refer to her as a “convenient tool” and the like. I swear his mind must be a puddle of messed up thoughts and feelings. Anyway, Gio is now acting all weird and seems to be in some sort of communication with Thanatos. I’m guessing that’ll be further expanded upon in the next episode.

Dragonaut ep. 18

[ Episode 18: Tranquility -Fleeting Days- ]

A year can change a lot of things, ya? Toa’s got a job and Jin is kissing her up as she should be. Gio is a stay-at-home dad. Sieglinde is even more of a spoiled brat, though that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Liner, Howling Star, and Amadeus are now in the custody of the ISDA who are now determined to exterminate all dragons. I’m sure Sakaki is kicking himself in the ass since that means he’ll have to do away with Laura who, despite how he treats her, is like a second daughter to him. I’m quite interested in seeing what Thanatos will do though. It also seems that Jin is still in the dark about Toa’s stigmata. It’s getting worse which means her life’s end is approaching closer. Will she really die? I’m having my doubts but given what Gonzo has done already…

Dragonaut ep. 17

[ Episode 17: Howl -When the Morning Star Burns- ]

That was a rather exciting episode. Gio seems to have awakened some new kind of power that I can only refer to as “super dragon” at the moment. It seemed to happen when he was blasted by Garnet/Asim and in turn unleashed some terrifying power that frightened Asim’s pawns and killed both Garnet and Asim. As for Machina and Akira, I just feel like they were used to show what happens to a dragon when their master dies and that just seems empty to me. Still though, at least they were given a final farewell of sorts by showing them both encased in ice after the ED sequence.

Kou not being just a reporter caught me off guard. I don’t have a clue as to what organization he’s with but I suppose that’ll come later. The jackass aka Kazuki is still alive which I find high disappointing since three characters who were far better than him died in the these past two episodes. Don’t get me started on the retarded eyepatch on his forehead. Just seeing Widow causes me to face-palm over and over because she’s the only responsible for saving the douche. ~_~

Dragonaut ep. 16

[ Episode 16: Cry -A Torn-up Fate- ]

Wow. Gonzo. You guys (and girls) are some rather cruel bastards. I mean, what the hell? How many twists were in this episode? Toa’s going to die soon? Akira is dead? Machina has goon berserker? Well, Garnet being a dragon really isn’t a surprise since I had my suspicions about her long ago especially with her earlier fights with Gio. But still, what kind of crack was used while writing this episode?! Seriously, why did she have to die? It seemed to just come out of no where and while death can be like that this one just didn’t add up. Should I even mention that despite blood spouting after she got slashed there was nothing on her suit or mouth? Bah, anyway, thinking of all that doesn’t matter at this point. Now that Machina has gone berserker I’m guessing that means she too will die. I guess it only makes sense since her most loved one just died in front of her.
