Man, this chapter was great. We’re suddenly shown how are heroes are thrown into a game called “Paradise Game” by Gerard. The point of the game is that they have to reach to where he is by going through those three assassins called Trinity Raven. The catch is that there is also the danger of everyone being blown to kingdom come by the Etherion. Time isn’t wasted either as Natsu has already encountered one of the assassins. Personally I find the owl guy ridiculous but he seems to be pretty damn strong (and can see in the friggin dark!). I’m looking forward to seeing how Natsu will deal with him in the coming chapters.

PSYREN just keeps on getting better and better. Not only did we get a two-page color spread but we’re told who the mystery guy is. Apparently Asaga knew him as a kid and that was he a pretty sickly guy. However, the current Tatsuo is flying all over the place and Bursting people to death. Hell, he scared off that huge worm and even shot at Yoshina, Amamiya and the others! His reasons for doing what he does is unclear but at the moment he’s recharging his Psi to start shooting again. The next chapter can’t come soon enough for me to see how Yoshina, Amamiya, Asaga, and the other two guys manage to get to the gate all while avoiding Tatsou and that huge worm.

SPOILERS ARE DEAD AHEAD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Wow. Just wow. Bleach shocked the hell out of me earlier this week when I heard that the flashback chapters were starting and on top of that the Vaizards were once apart of the Gotei 13. Seeing Shinji as captain of the 5th Division was awesome and hilarious at the same time because he was once sporting extremely long hair! Not only that, his lieutenant was Aizen! Oh man, he looked so noobish back then. Lisa was the lieutenant of the 8th Division, Hiyori seemed to be the lieutenant of the 13th Division, and Love as well as Rose were Captains as well.

[ Episodes 59-70: Innocence! Catch-up! ]

I don’t know how I managed to allow myself to fall behind on my DGM entries but since I’m just not into making individual entries for the past entries right now, and I’m sure many fans/readers have already seen them anyway, I’ll cover what the important thoughts in a batch entry. Though I’ll leave episodes 71, 72 and 73 as single entries since they are the most recent.
The most important things I loved during these episodes were Lenalee’s fight and Allen’s recovery. These two events were what led to Lenalee and Allen becoming my all-time favorite characters in the manga (they already were my favorites prior) and what elevated my love for the series when I first read the chapters some many months ago. Firstly, there’s Lenalee’s fight with the Level 3 Akuma. Throughout the entire thing I was on the edge of my seat and the same thing happened in the anime again. You don’t see too many female leads with battles as epic as Lenalee vs. and boy did she KICK ASS. I especially loved this battle since she is essentially the first exorcist to fight and successfully defeat a Level 3. However with that victory came the loss of a good portion of her beautiful hair and the use of her Innocence. Still though, she escaped with what’s important: her life. Even though she’s in no condition to contribute in the upcoming arc no one can blame or complain about her for being like that given that there’s no way for her to recover that quickly to fight and even if she did her Innocence is still out of commission. Lenalee has proven just how hardcore she is and that she can stand tall with the best (that is, Allen).

[ Episode 58: Asian Headquarters ]

This is probably the most uplifting episode in the series yet. Seeing Allen trying so hard to restore his Innocence makes me personally cheer out loud for him. I think I did something similar when I first saw it in the manga as well. I really loved how that scene was done. Additionally, I really like the Asian Headquarters. It doesn’t seem to be as big as the main Headquarters but it still feels like a nice place. Not to mention it has quite a few interesting people like Fou, Lou, and Bak who all are rather hilarious on their own. This part of the arc is one of my favorites since it shows Allen trying his hardest to regain his Innocence and in addition become stronger than he was before. Seeing the rest animated will be a real treat.

[ Episode 57: Disappearance and Reunion ]

When I first saw this part of the story it was all pretty sad at first because of the state it left Lenalee in. Thankfully though that was all temporary since she was basically reassured that Allen wasn’t dead by Bookman. Laughs were also aplenty mainly because of Miranda. I really loved how they executed her scenes, especially the last one where she tells the crew so happily that she can go without sleep for at least ten days and already didn’t sleep for three days. Seriously, Miranda is one messed up yet awesome woman. Though I have to wonder what keeps her going.
Oh, and as if we needed confirmation, we get to see Allen alive and well with a sleeping beauty at the side of his bed. Things are getting more and more awesome.

[ Episode 56: Delete ]
Holy shit! This episode was amazingly done. Everything about the confrontation between Allen and Tyki was handled perfectly in my opinion. The seiyuu added so much realism to the situation at hand, Tyki being the two-faced individual that he is and Allen obviously in pain and suffering from having his Innocence destroyed and heart opened up. Honestly, this is one of, if not the, best episode of D.Gray-man to date. Everything was done with quality in mind and the animation and especially the music did not disappoint.
When I first saw this chapter I was quite devastated and in shock and wondered what was going to happen next. Well, anime-only watchers who’ve seen the OP already know that Allen will bounce back from this 100+%. A hole in the heart? Pfft, please, that’s nothing. Destroyed Innocence and left arm? Ha, Allen will get those back and much more. However, the journey to him recovering and regaining his Innocence and powers will be anything but a simple task.
Also, with this episode it marks the end of volume 6 of the manga and the start of volume 7 (the bit that shows Fou finding Allen). Everything from here on, just like the previous 3-4 episodes, is going to be intensely awesome!

D.Gray-man ep. 55

[ Episode 55: Howl ]
The past three episodes have been amazing. The animation in them all, especially this one has been topnotch through and through. The music also contributed to all of the scenes appropriately whether it was for action or emotional affect such as dealing with Suman’s past with his family. The little arc is coming to a close now that Suman is dead. I remember this part of the story so well because, like Allen, I thought he would be able to live on but that wasn’t to be so as a result of Tyki finishing him off with his Teez. Allen is in a bad position and, as shown in the preview, is going to get pierced through the heart. If there’s one thing I love about D.Gray-man is its dark atmosphere and from here on out it’ll be that way for both sides of the struggle.
