Asu no Yoichi! ep. 4

[ Episode 4: Chihaya Pretending to be Chihaya ]

Chihaya episode!!!! Being the huge Yukarin dork I am, I was ecstatic that there’d be an episode focused on the mangaka in junior high (which already sounds impressive). From this Chihaya-centric episode, we learn about just what kind of person she is. It wasn’t as dramatic as it was made out to be, but it definitely showed that Chihaya is not a stereotypical fujoshi like one would expect her to be. No, she’s quite a genuine person who has a strong affection for manga and even has her own manga serialized, which in turn gives her profits for her to support the family a little. The other thing that really diversifies herself from most of those yaoi fangirls is that she isn’t obsessed in general. Sure, she uses Yoichi as manga material, but it’s not like it’s for her own desires.

The best things I like about her are her green hair, the glasses, the gothic punk-esque clothing she dones, endowed as much as Ayame and Ibuki (must run in the family), lax nature, and her slurred speech. She’s also pretty amazing with the art of seduction. Yoichi was uber pissed over the harsh treatment of Chihaya. That really shows after he brutally beat them all up. Didn’t know he could be that scary, but that’s Yoichi for you. He really is cool with the sword in his hands. BTW, his busting into the girl’s locker room was probably the funniest scene this episode. Sorry, Wa-san, you’re out.

This is most likely the only episode ever to focus on Chihaya as much as this, so I was glad to see this. She’s not meant to hide her feelings and cry like that, but it was nice to see how deep her character really is behind all the comedy.
