My dream anime.
2009 is here! And to start the year off, this season I’ll be blogging Maria†Holic, one of my most anticipated shows for Winter ‘08. (I had to snag this one away from Leon.) To give a little insight on the series, Maria†Holic is a SHAFT production, the guys behind Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. And SZS fans will probably recognize the slight similarities between the shows’ art styles. For the three female leads, we have Kobayashi Yu, Sanada Asami, and Inoue Marina. I didn’t identify Matsurika as Marina at first, but after seeing the seiyuu list, now I can definitely hear a hint of her voice there.
This show has almost everything I could possibly ask for in an anime: yuri, a trap, and an awesome meido. It’s as if SHAFT themselves went to my house and asked me for ideas on an anime. Kanako’s outrageous thoughts are pretty amusing and it’s funny how she fawns over any gorgeous girl she comes across. She’s basically the male lead of this harem. Mariya has two sides to him (I actually typed her when I first wrote this), the “onee-sama <3" look and his true male self which resembles Matsurika's personality a bit: straightforward and blunt. Both of them are just a hilarious pair.
The whole "oh noes I get hives when in contact with the opposite sex" thing reminds me of Girls Bravo. Like with Girls Bravo, if a male had this problem I'd probably be turned off by the show since it decreases the odds of "show time"; and that said male is probably a fag. But here when the female has it, I'm not that irked by it all since she's a lesbian. A perverted lesbian at that.
I was very pleased with the first episode as you can tell and I'm hoping the series can maintain the momentum.
ED Sequence: “Kimi ni, Mune Kyun” by Kobayashi Yu, Sanada Asami, and Inoue Marina
An interesting approach to the visual style which features the use of 2d pixel graphics, like something you would see in an old GameBoy game. Maybe they thought it was cute or something, but ehhhh.. I’m not too keen on it. The song used is performed by the three leads and it compliments the video well. The song itself is cute and has a nice beat, but I don’t think I’ll be downloading it when it’ll be out. Maybe a couple more listens will change that.

SHAFT is so awesome. I don’t thin there could have been a better studio to pick this up. I have yet to watch the first episode due to time restraints but I have read a bit of the manga and it’s quite hilarious.
Also, Mariya is too damn pretty. TOO PRETTY.
Ah, SHAFT. I hate those guys.
Maria Holic is happily random. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series too, though it’s probably becoming overhyped. XD
…Also, I’m dazzled by the shiny clarity of your screenshots. XD
