CLANNAD ~AFTER STORY~ ep. 12

[ Episode 12: Unexpected Incident ]
Half way there.

Wow, this episode was unexpectedly heavy. It was disappointing for me to see that all Yuusuke got was a flashback; not even a whole episode for his background. I wished they could have delved deeper into that. They pretty much sped through it and I would have loved to see more of the Yuusuke/Kouko relationship. The suicide thing was very surprising and you can see how much he has changed and grown from back then.
And the show continues to bring on the heavy stuff with Tomoya’s father being in jail and Tomoya’s transfer being rejected. He took that pretty hard. The last scene was just great, filled with both emotion and angst. It’ll be really interesting to see Nagisa’s parents meeting Tomoya’s dad if that happens in the next one.
Thanks to there being no episode last week, I finally caught up again. And with Yozakura Quartet done, hopefully I’ll get these in earlier.

I haven’t played the visual novel so I didn’t know exactly how the plot was going to play out, but I suppose I can finally lay to rest my hopes of all of the students getting together again. I really enjoyed the comedy and energy that the group had, but as the recent episodes have been saying, it’s time to move on. Overall I think think the show has been really good and strong in its own way, but I will miss Kotomi’s violin, Kyou’s dictionaries, Sunohara’s stupidity, and Tomoyo’s combo attacks.
Regarding this episode, I agree that it would have been more interesting to get into Yuusuke’s past with Kouko as it might have led to more Fuko, but in the end I guess the episode needed to focus on Tomoya and Nagisa.
