Kita ze Inbou! - キタぜ陰謀!

Bakuman ch. 12

[ Page 12: 10 and 2 ]

“Interesting” seems to be what this chapter was all about. Talking about the popularity of manga was rather intricate and confusing. The whole 20% thing threw me off a bit because then it would seem like any manga can just fly with Jump. The idea about cult status and mainstream is actually the “interesting” bit I read. Normally, mainstream would mean global popularity and it would live on for a long while. Then again, it could become highly overrated and people begin to see the dullness of it all. Just think of the long-running Jump titles right now. On the other hand, cult status is hard to get by but anything under the radar will always have support from the underground, hence the cult status. I can’t exactly pinpoint what gain this will be. If I had to choose, they should go mainstream first.

Shujin impresses me every time with this ability to conceptualize stories out of his brain. All his stories seemed interesting to me already. I definitely would want to check out a manga about the government and brain activity. Actually, the one about the high school guy dating a bunch of girls at the same time sounded really hilarious too.

+ Miyoshi is totally love, Hattori’s “THESE ARE ALL BORING” face
- A bit more length dialogue then usual, but it’s useful information nonetheless

Yup. It’s confirmed. Miyoshi OWNS Shujin. There’s no way he’s getting away from her now. I’m pretty sure that they’re going to be married along with Azuki and Saiko in the future. :P Anyway, I totally did a “WTF?” when Hattori told Saiko and Shujin that the new stuff they brought in was boring even though he told them to be more mainstream. Though, I was even more surprised at the information he told them: “Make something that people normally wouldn’t like” and “If 20% of people like it, it’s considered popular”. What? Really? If that’s true (and I assume that it is given that everything else seems to be pretty solid) then I wonder just how it applies throughout a series life? Given that a few manga that I really liked ended in the past few months (Double Arts, Mx0), I refuse to believe that they weren’t able to secure at least 20% and would rather think that the percentage goes up after time.
