Kannagi ep. 5

[ Episode 5: Revelation! Love the Dining Table Devil ]

SUMMARY

Jin discovers that Nagi is becoming popular between the students at his school, to the point of having a famous website and a huge fanclub. However, the teachers became worried about her influence with the students, and Nagi ends up confronted by one of them who happens to be Hakua’s father. He easily figures that Nagi is a god just like Zange and questions her about her intentions. After stating that despite having her reasons to be with the students, she has no intention to harm them, Nagi is brought to the principal’s room. While the students cheer for her, Nagi discovers that her godly powers increased a little, and the incident is settled with her officially enrolled at the school.

REVIEW

Without a doubt, the series continues to impress me with its charm and wit. The biggest highlight of this episode, for me, was clearly Yamakan’s special guest appearance. The staff must love turning his plight into a joke. I mean, yeah, it totally sucked, but now that Yamamoto’s with A-1, it’s all fun and good for him. Please don’t get sacked, Yamamoto! My other favorite bits from the episode are the Super Mario Bros. bit, and seeing the YamaTube. I also loved it when Nagi was being interrogated, and when Takako and Jin arrived at the scene, one student was patting Jin’s head. It was odd, but pretty funny.

It’s really interesting seeing Nagi gain so much popularity at Jin’s school, even more than Zange’s. Competition sounds fierce and Zange must really hate losing. Speaking of which, that little cooking contest was hilarious. Presentation wise, Nagi’s looked real appealing, but the taste left for something more desirable. Tsugumi’s didn’t look bad, and Zange’s looked… well it didn’t look really like something edible. So who did win that one anyway? You know, if girls keep showing up at his home, this will start turning into Otomari Honey.

So getting back to the episode now, it was hysterical how Nagi’s newly developed power was basically a flashlight from her staff. Imagine what else it could’ve been as she directed it toward Hagashima’s brow. Now that Nagi’s attending school, the tension between the god sisters must be rising. While all that’s going on, it just leaves Jin with more headaches, I bet.
