Kannagi ep. 3

[ Episode 3: The Goddess of the School ]
![]()
SUMMARY
It’s a school day, and in the art club, the girls have the guys tidy up an old building, where there’s a storehouse in the basement for the arts club. Apparently haunted or cursed, but the guys head there anyway to check it out, much to Jin’s fear. That explains why Tsugumi went with them too. The place is pigsty, and Jin notices a peculiar spider crawling. Tsugumi tells a tale of a student that died in the basement long ago and as she finishes the story, the group hears a banging at the basement door on the floor itself. Needless to say they scream in terror.
At home, Jin wonders if he should tell Nagi about the impurity he saw, but decides not to knowing that Nagi would want to go to the school. Nagi can see that Jin’s hiding something, so she takes matters into her own hands by taking the appearance of a student. Needless to say, she garners much attention by the other students. She heard about the impurity and decides to take action. The banging turns out to be from the art club’s adviser, apparently set up by Shino and Takako. Nagi is certainly not amused.

Nagi delivers a Knee Smash to Jin, perhaps intentionally, as she dashes off and out of the school. She catches her breath from running and notices a church of some sort. She enters inside, where a young girl bearing a crucifix hair clip awaits her. The spider impurity from before is dangled from the girl’s fingers where it is then destroyed when she squeezes with her bare hand. Nagi seems angered, asking what she’s doing here. The girl merely responds by saying “it’s been a while, big sister.”
REVIEW
The series continues to become better and better by the episode, and I’m loving it. While the first two were really great in their own way, episode 3 brings out the true colors of the show, along with the introduction of characters with their own variety. Shino and Takako are a devious duo. Not only do they seem to be picking on the little ones, but they show some superiority over them as well. Kouhai and senpai, no? So far I don’t know what to think of them, but they seem interesting. Shino has her eyes closed most of the time, and Takako’s hairstyle looks atrociously original. I do like how she gives every guy a certain nickname. “Too pure-pure boy”? Based on first glance, she looks totally like a fujoshi. The hulk Daitetsu reminds me of Chad from BLEACH. So we know that he’s the one who gave Jin the sacred tree. Usually the physically strong, big guys can be somewhat dense, but this guy doesn’t seem that way at all. Of course, he does have a softer side on account that he gave Jin a book about a cat. Then there’s Akiba, and like his name, pretty much sums him up. Not sure if that should be called coincidence, but anyway, he’s a hilarious fellow. His reaction to manga clubs had me laughing, especially once he ranted about the otaku there in a wicked, monstrous form. He acts like he isn’t an Akiba-kei but it blandly shows once he starts talking about Jin being a protagonist if this was a manga (it sure has a manga) and he even mentions galge.

Tsugumi once again is as innocent as ever, and her talk with Nagi was really interesting. She really does seem to like Jin a lot and she’s not backing down to Nagi, at least not in the breast size department. I wonder if what Nagi said to her was true or really an act. The part about Nagi liking someone else. Just like certain girls though, she’s a bit worried on her image and we see that from her debacle with the school uniforms. She still thinks Nagi has a split personality so I thought it was funny when she brought that up again. The moment she told the story about the kid in the storehouse was a little creepy, and her pupils disappeared. It certainly was like watching Higurashi again. Perhaps that was a reference?
Jin and Nagi are getting along fine as usual. Their hand slap fight was easily entertaining, it almost turned into a wuss fight if they kept it up any longer. Their whole encounter when she shows up at school was pure gold too. Nagi’s adorable “Jin-kun!” cry from something out of an dating sim got to me, but what got to me more was how Jin swiftly dodged her. His entire demeanor during that segment gave me Key character vibes, specifically speaking, Tomoya. The funniest comment was how he was called an idiot, because he has not one, but two strands of ahoge. I actually never paid attention to that until then so it was really funny. Aho-Aho Man! And finally, little Zange makes an appearance at the end of the episode. Not sure how she’ll be, but I hope for another great character. I wonder just what’s the deal with her and Nagi anyway. Are they really sisters? The next episode title is called “Sisters.” Now is that pertaining to the two, or is that supposed to be a pun on “sisters” religiously? Ah, speaking of which, there was an absence of puns in this episode (’sides Dokusasori’s name) but despite that, it was a solid watch. As always, awaiting more!

I want to join the Art club. I’ll be the charmless player that never scores, yet is somehow endearing.
Yeah where are the puns joke darn it XD. Hm so Nagi’s sister makes an appearance. Things should be getting more lively from here.
God, this show’s already a riot! How is it supposed to get “more lively”?
