A very stylish OP. The song itself is very catchy while the video has a lot of different things going on with the background and special effects. Also I’ve been wondering if the person next to Ao (first pic) is the fabulous cat-eared villain in the show. They both look similar though the reason I’m having doubts is because he didn’t take much notice of her in the first episode.

As one of my more anticipated shows this season, Yozakura Quartet didn’t fail to entertain me. The art style is very appealing. It was the first thing that caught my eye when I saw this show in the Fall preview. I don’t what it is about it, but I’m loving it. The animation team is Nomad and the only thing I’ve seen from them is sola. And I remember the actions scenes in that show were well done so I have high hopes for them in this show.

The series takes an interesting direction regarding the balance between humans and youkai. In this show, they actually co-exist with each other, well in the town anyways. I’ve never seen that done before so I’m really interested on how they’ll make use of it.

The main four characters are a fun bunch and all of them are interesting and unique in their own ways. Recently I decided to make Hime mai waifu. The show does a great job of portraying both her serious and light sides, which I find adorable.

Fighting-wise, the team is pretty concrete. Hime is the powerhouse, Ao is support, Kotoha is the spell user, while Akina plays the most important yet boring role, the exorcist. Actually, I find it pretty cool that Akina is one of the very few humans in the show; even if the line between human and youkai is pretty slim here as they portray most of the youkai living like normal everyday human beings. And Akina has his own special powers so sometimes I forget how different they really are.

Also I’m not sure if I’m a bad person for thinking this, but I actually found it a bit amusing that Rin was the one getting picked on in the second episode. I would have expected that a youkai would have been the oppressor in the case of bullying. I guess that goes to show that human beings can be just as nasty if not nastier.

Great use of effects and colors here. Overall, lighthearted and fun to watch and the song is pleasant to listen to as well.

Kotoha needs to stick her tongue out more.

The Youkai are little too close to human. Hell, I don’t understand why Akina isn’t considered one since he does have special powers. His hair grows out, and he kills demons as assuredly as bashing them. I don’t see how being a little more specialised than most makes that much of a difference.

Rin’s one of those Chinese Zombies? The Talisman does what exactly?

I hope the series becomes more interesting. Whether more supernatural, humorous, action-packed, or dramatic. It feels watered down as it is.

Hmm they didn’t really explain the purpose of the talisman. I guess it’s one of those common folklore in Asia.

Yeah there’s no concrete plot yet so I’m hoping it will pick up in the next episode.
