Bakuman ch. 5

Man I’m slow, I’m seeing the pattern in the chapter titles only NOW.
So this was a rather informative chapter here. I knew mangaka had it hard when working on their panel drawings. I even knew they use specialized pens for drawing (which clearly turns out way different than sketching with a regular writing/drawing utensil), but I never understood the different types of pens and which one is the most suitable. Being sort of an artistic person myself, I can imagine how much stress I’d get with it. I’d definitely would give it plenty of shots though, as I have always wanted to try g-pens and such. Heck, even the coloring techniques they use would be most helpful.
+ Very informative on the mangaka’s side of working
- A bit tedious of a chapter after cramming all that in

Man, there is so much to learn about being a mangaka. From what was shown in this chapter there is even much more to know. How to draw effects? Using pens correctly? Man, and here I once thought it probably would have been at least somewhat easy to slip into the manga scene. If I were to enter it I’d be in Shujin’s position though so the pressure would be on me for a gripping story and convincing characters. I find it interesting though that Saiko and Shujin happened to come across information of a 15-year old taking second place in the Tezuka contest. There’s no doubt that that information will only serve to push the duo even further. I have one thought though…exactly how much of what we’re seeing are the personal experiences of Ohba and Obata? I wouldn’t mind seeing something indicating such a possibility in Bakuman’s future tankoubons.
