Kita ze Inbou! - キタぜ陰謀!

Lucky☆Star ep. 18

[ Episode 18: Different Strokes for Different Folks ]

Good situation, desu ne!

Konata starts the fun by offering the girls snacks from a bunch of figure boxes she bought. Then she proceeds to think what kind of animal everyone is. Konata depicts herself as a fox, Tsukasa a dog, Yutaka a squirrel, and Kagami as a bunny, funny enough. The girls then see what kind of animals the other characters would be. In actuality, these depictions are actually images straight from the 4koma (perhaps it was in the 4koma itself too), so I thought it was an interesting move to show that.

So we learn Miyuki’s true vision now, and it’s a pretty low one. Miyuki lists a number of foods that’s good for your eyes, a lot of food I never thought would help but you learn something everyday. She even knows about this eye exercise that might help out, which seems really aloof. Plus, not even Miyuki can do it right. I do wonder if that does help. Never really tried it myself.

Now here’s the question that I’m sure clicks in everyone’s mind: what’s “moé”? The term goes a long way and there’s no real definite… definition, but the closest way I can describe it is a feeling inside you that brings warmth to your soul and makes you feel all good and tingly inside. If you want some rough translation, you could probably go with “turn-ons” because that’s basically when you see erokawaii female characters. It’s a long story, but might as well use Wikipedia for the answer.

The best scene comes right here. Kagami bugs Konata into trying out reading light novels again. Konata reluctantly complies while Kagami sits right next to her gleefully, and with a very, very, very, VERY long staring moment. Jiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii~ That was amazingly done, Emiri! I think Konata’s a pretty slow reader when it comes to light novels though. Poor girl.

Kuroi-sensei and Konata talk about how there are always special programs interrupting regular scheduled ones in a Super Robot Wars-esque interface. At least, that’s what I think it was… funny nevertheless. Konata always knows how to start a conversation and keep it silly. When it’s pouring outside, Tsukasa wonders why boys don’t care much if they get drenched, and that’s when Konata bluntly states it’s because they don’t have to worry about having their bras revealed through the wet shirts.

Seeing Konata abusing her senior powers to the freshmen was all so humorous, especially for her size. Once you tell ‘em, they start panicking. I wonder if anyone would be frightened by Yutaka too once she becomes a third-year.

Meganekko #2 and fujoshi extraordinaire Hiyori debuts during the freshmen gym dodgeball activity. Not much of a first impression for Hiyori as she as she is defeated by Minami in a matter of seconds by a Spartan ball throw. It’s really cute seeing that Minami thinks up all the ways to avoid getting Yutaka seriously hurt.

Patty makes a triumphant reappearance (a regular now) at school, tell her new Nipponjin friends of her great pilgrimages. If this doesn’t label her as a gaijin otaku then I don’t know what does.

The new girls hang out at Hiyori’s home, where she happens to have a NICE selection of manga at her disposal, and some doujin art as well, including some of her friends…. Careful there, Hiyori.

Well, I’ve never been to Otome Road before, but, as Patty says, it’s mostly fujoshi that go there anyway. Yutaka has the wrong, but more innocent impression of it, almost like a fairytale. Oh man, her pure mind is hopefully untainted by the end of the day.

After seeing this episode, Misao’s growing to be one of my favorites. On top of being one of Kagami’s friends, she adopts the whole 3-second rule too, depending on the situation. Can’t say I haven’t done that before.

Lucky Channel is getting a bad atmosphere as Akira gets impatient again after seeing six more characters now regularly seen in the show. Look on the bright side, at least you were in Konata’s imagination. She looked real cute in the raincoat too…. She’s not at all impressed though, as expected, haha.

The ED this time is actually quite nice. Probably Shiraishi’s best performance despite of a little screw up. Kaorin no Theme, it’s called. And hey, it’s about Kaori too! Tsukasa’s seiyuu indeed looks lovely in a dress. Unfortunately the end screws that up when she magically transforms into… SHIRAISHI?! Ehhhhhhhhh!!?
