Lucky☆Star OP/EDs Review

Lucky☆Star OP Theme Single – Motteke! Sailor Fuku
Motteke! Sailor Fuku
Continuing my LS reviewing, I thought now’s the time to evaluate the many factors that make it attractive, and they are the theme songs. After the successful Haruhi anime series, along with the ever-popular Hare Hare Yukai dance sequence, Lucky☆Star completely tops it with a much more intricate choreography. I hear Yamamoto was behind that, and if so, I commend him for that. I do know he did work on the Haruhi ED so that tells me something.
At any rate, the song itself is quite fast-paced, as well as the lyrics. I wonder just how much the girls had to practice singing it. Definitely would think it takes a long while before getting it perfect. Hata Aki is really good at writing lyrics. The list of works is actually huge! A lot of the songs I really liked too, so I’m glad for that. This song probably has one of the most abstract lyrics of all though. I haven’t completely comprehended the full meaning of it, but I did recognize a great post on AnimeSuki’s forums detailing it. On the other front, we have Kousaki Satoru working behind the composition, another plus. I just love his music.

Kaeshite! Knee Socks
I’ve always been a sucker for b-sides, and this is no different. Before we get a song about wearing sailor uniforms. Now we get one about the knee socks, a particular nice trait about female characters. They leave just enough for the absolute territory and that makes a bunch of rabid fanboys blurt ‘moé~’ dreamily. It’s a catchy tune though with another great set of lyrics and composition. I can see this actually playing as one of the series’ themes. Could’ve worked as a second OP or an insert IMO.

A solid single! No wonder it sold out pretty damn fast the first day…
Lucky☆Star ED Theme Collection ~Aru Hi no Karaoke Box
Not only is this album jam-packed with the ED songs from the karaoke box segment (basically ripped from the ED videos), it even has full versions included! I did a little review on those while blogging the episodes, so I think some extensive song reviewing is in order.
Uchuu Tetsujin Kyodain – performed by Konata (Hirano Aya)
Lol, sounds awfully funny. Kinda terrible, as it’s supposed to be, but I can’t help but enjoy it. I wonder if I should score it based on effort of actually singing it as if it was the girls karaoke-ing for real.
7.5/10.0
Shouri da! Akumaizer 3 performed by Konata (Hirano Aya)
Another tokusatsu, but better than the first one. Actually liked it though!
8.0/10.0
Sore ga, Ai Deshou? performed by Konata (Hirano Aya)
Now here’s a lovely one… if it weren’t for Aya shifting her vocals back and forth. I think I would’ve liked it a little bitter if it wasn’t so sudden like that, but it was pretty funny.
9.5/10.0
Sailor Fuku to Kikanjuu performed by Kagami (Katou Emiri)
A decent karaoke performance, but I know Emiri definitely can do better. Nothing bad at all, of course.
8.0/10.0
CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA performed by Konata (Hirano Aya)
The full version is just as hilarious as the TV edit. Aaya keeps it real, and she knows how to scream… way better than when I sang this.
9.0/10.0
Valentine Kiss performed by Tsukasa (Fukuhara Kaori)
It was a nice performance but I just wanted to hear Kaori’s voice only the whole time.
8.5/10.0
Chijou no Hoshi performed by Miyuki (Endou Aya)
Yeah, it did sounded very manly. Not bad, but not a solid performance (wait, it’s karaoke).
7.5/10.0
MONKEY MAGIC performed by Konata (Hirano Aya)
Funny song, craptacular performance. You get effort though, Konata. F for fucking hilarious. It’s just so funny. In the full version she actually has to continue singing but fails horribly. The interesting bit was that she could translate the English into Japanese, yet it still wasn’t enough.
5.0/10.0
Kogarashi ni Idakarete performed by Konata (Hirano Aya)
An almost perfect performance but not quite there, I guess. That’s how I want to hear you, Aaya!
9.5/10.0
I’m proud performed by Kagami (Katou Emiri)
My favorite karaoke, to be honest. She just sounds so cute and sweet. I guess I’m the one that should be proud of her.
9.0/10.0
Doraemon no Uta performed by Konata (Hirano Aya), Kagami (Katou Emiri), Tsukasa (Fukuhara Kaori), and Miyuki (Endou Aya)
Originally performed by just Tsukasa and Miyuki but the other two joins in for quartet. Overall, a cute song, it’s Doraemon after all.
8.5/10.0
Ike! Godman performed by Konata (Hirano Aya)
SOS! SOS! SOS! SOS! Yeah, I have no idea what she’s doing but it’s funny.
8.0/10.0
Makenaide performed by Konata (Hirano Aya), Kagami (Katou Emiri), Tsukasa (Fukuhara Kaori), and Miyuki (Endou Aya)
The last and final piece, where the girls go all out on this one. Play that tambourine, Miyuki!

Overall: ~8.25/10.0
Lol, no perfects, but this isn’t supposed to be a perfect album of well-done performances. Well I guess, it not being that is what makes it perfect, bearing in mind that it is indeed a karaoke box.
