[ Episode 12: Let's Go to the Festival ]

Here it is, Comike episode! What wonderful way to end your holidays, and the year for that matter, than going to Winter Comiket? Konata asks Miyuki to come along for the ride too but luckily Miyuki doesn’t accept so she now depends on Kagami, who actually went with Konata once before, and Tsukasa, a first timer. You know her, she says she’ll give it her all, but when that time comes it’s all gonna drain the life out of her. Not only that but after this episode, Comiket had officially scarred Tsukasa for life.

If there’s anything I learned about Comiket, it’s that it’s always very vital to catch the first train to the convention center in Odaiba. The earlier, the better. Of course, that train’s gonna be effin’ packed with wotas and cosplayers. It sounded intense when Konata went through a step-by-step military covert strategy to guide the twins are their mission to the doujinshi they must acquire first. When it comes to what Konata loves, she sound really passionate, devoted, and downright scary. I wonder how much thought you put that day. She even supplies Kagami and Tsukasa with coffee and money (Konata packed a lot of dough this episode) for their mission. Comiket = serious business.

While Konata knows what she’s doing, the other girls get sidetracked. Kagami stumbles upon a certain FMP doujinshi that’s too intense for her, while Tsukasa gets sidetracked literally as she is forcefully moved with the crowd.

One of great surprises this episode was the return of Anizawa and his gang. His duds are attempting to sell their doujin to Konata which hilariously fails hard, while Anizawa is teaching newbie Sugita (nice caricature) the ropes of selling. I can’t help but think this was just too good to let KyoAni pass up on inserting many of their series in this one. From FMP to Haruhi… Hey now, you got Chihara Minori in my Lucky☆Star! I noticed there were a lot of famous anime characters being cosplayed too. Alphonse!

After the hectic comical festival, it’s now time to head to the shrines, where the Hiiragi sisters, including the older sisters, help out, in miko outfits no less. Konata and her dad pray for this and that, and we see that Kagami wishes she could be in the same class as the rest. It’s so sweet of her, but it’s so sad knowing that she never gets to be in their class. Konata received a less than decent fortune but the way she talked about it like they were trading cards got me laughing. Yes, keep buying random ones and you might get the secret item! Actually that sounds like it applies more to those random boxed figures.

You just learn something new everyday. Kagami’s name may mean mirror, but from what I got, it could also be referring to kagami mochi. What a blissful name, Kagami.

It was funny seeing Konata bother her dad until she got her new years money. She then ponders the term pochi bukuro. Her dad explains it really well as a bag to put small things inside, and yet she calls Miyuki for confirmation. Poor dad, haha.

So Akira was supposed to make her grand debut in the show, but she apparently caught a cold and therefore was unable to show up, so in her stead, was a cardboard cutout of herself. Hahaha.

On the karaoke box, Konata once again takes the mic, but the song selection doesn’t happen until near the end. I think it sounded nice. Good news now, we’re halfway through the series! Bad news, unfortunately, this is the last karaoke box ED. Hope you guys liked those Shiraishi ones the first time they aired….
