Lucky☆Star ep. 6

[ Episode 06: Fixtures of Summer ]

Gravity! Gravity! Feel the power!

What’s with the Initial D-like driving? I dunno, but that was the most hilarious parody they’ve done thus far. One of the best in the series and one of the first most memorable moments in my book. Yui’s got extreme, hardcore driving skills, probably a bit more than the usual cop knows, but man she was on fire and a real winner at speed and ability. I don’t think I’d be particular safe with her in the car though. Kuroi-sensei at the wheel would be more relaxing and breezy but then again, she can easily be off track.

The gals take a little stop to get some fresh air, which they totally needed. You hear that sound? When cicadas cry you can tell summer will be ending soon. Gotta say, hearing those cries are pretty memorable too. It’s not right not hearing them while watching Higurashi.

So they finally make it and it looks like they’re ready to hit the beach. Konata goes the niche route with the obligatory school swimsuit, which looks like it’s… well when you look at what it says… okay wow, that’s really old…

After their fantabulous beach food, the girls now head on to shower off. It seems that they can even have long conversations about hair. Being girls, that doesn’t sound like such a stretch at all. And what do you know, I actually learned something new again thanks to Miyuki’s goldmine of information. Though I dunno if hair care is really all that useful to me.

Here’s where one of the best LS scenes occur. That’s right: Timotei. Very random insert there but man did that catch on quick with the internets. This episode probably brought on a lot of famous (infamous?) scenes about. Konata plays a wet trick on Miyuki and then the whole thing about “that” is talked about. Way to go, Konata! You know, she really knows how to scare the pants off people, but on the flip side, she knows how to make the mood all funny again.

Another plus in this episode has to be, for me, Tsukasa and the seashell scene. I thought it was a cute. A very nice moment too. Just hearing the sea and the waves, with nothing funny to say, just enjoying the moment. That is until a hermit crab crawls out and scares the crap out of her. Predictable, yet almost subtle.

So it’s back at home and the girls are doing some summer cleaning. The Hiiragi twins can’t help but find old photo albums and take a look, quite a common thing to happen. I laughed when they were talking about a certain photo of their dad that seemed maximum risqué, only to then have their dad walk by and ask about their cleaning.

At the end of the episode, Miyuki’s young mother makes her first appearance. Quite a funny conversation, Miyuki has to go to the dentist, but she doesn’t like it. Miyuki’s mother doesn’t want to force her to go, so as an alternative, she calls the dentist to come over to their house instead. Great, great end.

In Lucky Channel, Akira was more aggressive this time, unexpectedly. What I didn’t expect was her almost giving Shiraishi a traumatic experience, so much that he had trouble introducing Konata without talking uncontrollably. Unfortunately they didn’t really introduce Konata, but otaku in general and Akira, as usual, goes on on and on.

Tsukasa finally gets her shot at karaoke as she sings “Valentine Kiss.” Unfortunately I couldn’t hear much of Fukuhara Kaori’s cute voice thanks to Aya yelling in the background in character. I agree, Kagami, sometimes she just needs to calm herself down and let the others handle it. Still, it was pretty funny and I enjoyed the song.
