Another well-rounded chapter afoot. The dynamic duo that is Shujin and Saiko are starting to get serious on their project after witnessing Moritaka’s uncle’s studio. Heck, that place was pretty huge, considering the huge wall of figures and even the 3-bedroom-turned-to-one.

It’s a bit accurate from what this chapter shows though. Manga takes damn long to work with when you have all these fulfillment to do. Pens and names are what stands out a lot in this case. For a mangaka working in a weekly publication like Weekly Shonen Jump, that’s definitely a lot of time constriction on your hands. These people are pulling out 19 or so pages a week and they gotta get it in time. It’s really frustrating to know, but that’s why we have some awesome material to look forward to every week. I’m quite anxious to see what manga they’ll create. I dunno if I want to see some fictional setting with swords but I’m inclined to anything right now.

Huge studio is huge. Seriously, it was bigger than I expected it to be and I certainly didn’t expect to see all of those action figures there. This chapter pretty much had Saiko and Shujin going over just how difficult being a mangaka is and how much dedication it requires. Pen types? Names? I knew they used special pens but I wasn’t clear about their types. Names were new to me though I do think I’ve seen a few before (in volumes I think). I’m glad that I’ve gotten a better picture of what a mangaka has to go through in order to be successful and make money, especially those in Jump who have to churn out 18-19 pages a week.

It’s pretty funny though that I was thinking about how Jump just recently cut one or two manga from the magazine (Dogashi Kaden in particular which got cut with only 13 chapters out) and wondering just what it takes to escape the guillotine. With that in mind I’m really wondering what Saiko and Shujin’s manga is going to be. Somehow I doubt it’ll have anything to do with swords but who the hell knows what Obata/Ohba will do at this point.
