Soul Eater ep. 6

[ Episode 6: The Rumored Freshman! Kid's First Appearance at Shibusen, an Experience to Remember? ]

Soul Eater and Black Star are probably the tightest friends I have seen in an anime in a long time, and ever since I have seen episode 4, I wondered how would a combination of those two would work. To Maka’s dismay, when the two pick a fight against Death the Kid, they are joining force… to our amusement.

Despite this episode being completely comedy-filled, it taught us an important lesson: for each weapon there is only one technician as the two have to have perfect wavelength. Still it was pretty hysterical to witness Black Star wielding Soul only to slash himself. Despite their lack of compatibility, the two remain friends in what would be considered the funniest scene in Soul Eater so far, and that says a lot.

One thing I didn’t like as much is Death the Kid. I am not sure what to think of him as of now: On one hand he is very skillful and his soul resonance with the Thompson sisters is quite deadly considering his stature, but on the other hand if you recall, he gets beat up constantly because of his OCD. It was funny the first time, but for a character that suppose to be the elite, you can’t really root for him and he’d fit more as a side character. I can say that among the 3 groups, Kid’s group is my least favorite not only because of Kid’s madness, but because of his perfect compatibility, it is hard to identify with him as he is almost perfect despite that. He is great comedy, though.

It was a nice episode of Soul Eater, despite my Death the Kid’s bashing. I really hope his character will get more background and seeing how the main antagonist will be presented next episode, I can finally hope for a more streamlined story, which, after 6 episodes, would be nice.

Like the title suggests, Kid makes his grand debut at Shibusen, only to end up fighting the funniest combination known as Black Star and Soul. Seriously, their unbalanced wavelengths made it so bad that they can’t even handle each other. They realize they can’t stay partners any longer but are still BFFs. Cue lovey-dovey scene. Now that, I found that to be pretty freakin’ hilarious. Gotta love how Black Star rolls his “r’s” like that. Oh god, that killed me.

Kid is such a badass though. When he resonates his soul with the Thompson sisters (which now reminds me of bankai) he gets some shiny metal skull-marked cannons. You know, I think Kid could really handle anything if he wasn’t so anal on symmetry. That will always cost him a lot in the end. He was pretty slick fighting them though so it’s all good. Looks like next week is gonna have some interesting story following.

Epic funny episode! Kid has finally joined the Shinigami Academy (even though he’s already a god of death…) and while the episode itself didn’t do anything for story progression, I found it to be highly enjoyable. Soul and Black Star just couldn’t help starting a fight with Kid knowing that he was the son of Shinigami-sama and the results were hilarious. Their “declaring friendship” scene was too damn funny and it was even more hilarious when Kid shot them before they could get any closer to each other. The end of the episode was pretty surprising with Maka trying to see Shinigami-sama’s soul…only to not realize that it is so massive that it covers the entire town! That’s madness!
