CODE GEASS Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 ep. 4

[ Turn 04: The Scaffold of Counterattack ]
Lelouch mentally owns Rolo. Viletta loves Ougi. And friggin’ Suzaku returns to Ashford. Yay for the first two. Boo at the last bit.

Lelouch continues to amaze me every time. Seriously, I had no freaking idea how he was going to pull of all that he did in this episode. Saving his comrades, shaking off Rolo, and dealing with Guilford/Britannia is absolutely no simple feat and with the time Lelouch had to plan things out, it’s no wonder everything went according to plan. I thought it was absolutely awesome when Lelouch used the shield that he borrowed to surf Eureka Seven-style to safety when he pulled off the same stunt he did in Black Rebellion. I had wondered why he wanted to use a shield in a duel but I never thought he’d use it in such a manner. Lelouch really sent Rolo into a web of confusion and from the looks of things has gained him as an ally. He’s going to be pretty damn useful because of his Geass and access abilities. Still, Rolo isn’t exactly safe and will probably pay with his life for not dealing with Lelouch when he had the chance. It’s hard to say what will happen to him from here on out though.
And well, well. Look who’s back at Ashford. Friggin’ Suzaku. Why did he come back? I suppose he wants to confirm for himself that Lelouch has regained his memories? I’m also wondering how those two are going to co-exist without either trying to outright kill the other. I know Lelouch will pretend that he hasn’t regained his memories but as for the other one, how will he maintain his composure? Hmm. I suppose that’s why Zino and Anya will be there in the next episode. One more thing that really intrigued me was how Viletta reacted when Ougi, Todou, and the others were saved. She was genuinely relieved and even smiled at the fact that he was saved from execution. I think that pretty much confirms (aside from the OP) that she still has some lingering feelings for the guy. Now exactly how the two will meet again is anyone’s guess but perhaps it’ll be by chance in some public place (although that’ll be risky for Ougi). Next week’s episode doesn’t seem to have any action like these past four episodes but it looks to be great nonetheless. I can’t wait.

Only four turns and it’s still going strong, but hey, who wouldn’t see that coming? So right where we left off, Lelouch was basically in a sticky situation, but he managed to convince Rolo he’d give up C.C. (tch… right) among other sweet promises. We delve a bit into Rollo’s backstory, which is rather quite pitifully sad If I may add. Now I wanna know exactly when and how he gained it. Judging by the flashback, he was no younger than 8 when we first witness it in action (did he get the guys in the back too?!).
The main highlight of this episode was the Zero/Guilford duel, or whatever you’d call that. Now I was pretty amazed at the trick Lelouch pulled yet again. Really, always a classic with the territorial strategy. Though the funniest bit is when he uses his selected shield as a board; very nice.
So Kuro no Kishidan is saved (like, gee, didn’t see that coming. Not from the OP anyway…). I noticed Li had a bit more prominent screen time and lines this episode, and I still like the guy. Seems he’s on their side after all. BTW, I hope I wasn’t the only one annoyed with that leader of the CU, so I’m quite glad Li did him in. What else, oh, Kaguya again! No, that’s not it. Anyway, on the subject of sides, Rolo got a good talk and this seems to be the turning point where he joins the Rebellion, perfect timing for using Vincent! My main concern is whether he’ll follow to it or not because he really wanted to kill Lelouch so badly. As for Lelouch, he’s showing the same thing. In reality, after his objective is complete, he’ll be disposing of his “brother” too. Domestic violence!!! Next episode features Knight of Rounds and that should be entertaining.
