CODE GEASS Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 ep. 3

[ Turn 03: The Imprisoned Academy ]

Kallen really should wear only just a towel a few more times this season.

Man, Geass keeps on getting better and better each and every episode! Despite the leak that occurred this episode still ended up being excellent and the directing was just superb. Lelouch showed throughout this episode why he is such a deep and amazing character. Even after regaining his memories he was able to throw off Viletta, Rollo, and the rest of the SIS long enough for him to set up his plans. That takes a lot of careful decision making and realizing the limits of one’s actions.

Lelouch uses his excellent strategic skills to navigate throughout most of the episode, especially toward the end where he manages to escape from the mall where Rolo, Shirley, and the others were and went all the way back to Ashford to get the drop on Rolo. It was a great plan but it’s a pity that Rolo’s Geass turned out to be the equalizer between them. His Geass’ ability, from what I have observed, involves either stopping time around a certain area or stopping a person’s perception of time. Maybe we’ll get an explanation later about it but for now Lelouch is going to have to find a way to get around that Geass power of his. After all, he’s going to have to save his core members of the OBK in the next episode without fail.

Touching on the more softer side of the episode, I found the little outing between Lelouch and Shirley to be quite cute. It’s because of her, Milly, and the others that we get to see Lelouch’s more relaxed side which he hasn’t been able to indulge it for a long time. At least with his old memories intact. It’s going to be interesting to see how he manages to maintain his relationships with them while trying to get back into his Zero persona and resurrecting the Order of the Black Knights. I don’t think he’d want to distance himself away from them again like last time

Kallen and C.C. were both hilarious in this episode. Their interaction made me smile and Kallen running into the meeting with just a towel on was pure golden. Her expression when she realizes that there are people other than C.C. present had me rolling. We also got to see more of Li. Speaking of which, he is confusing me at the moment. He first stated in the episode that he was interested in the Black Knights and yet he started attacking them at the very end of the episode. Perhaps he received higher orders somehow? Or maybe it’s all apart of another plan Lelouch/Zero thought up? Whatever it is, I’m really excited for the next episode!

This episode showcased another one of Lelouch’s fine moments. We’ve seen before his strategy for outwitting the opposing player inside and outside combat but it never gets old. This time he did it again and how astonishing was that. He was able to fool a good number of people, including in the beginning with Rolo (yet again, the C.C./Zero suit trick), up until the point at the end, where Rollo utilizes the power of Geass, time tweaking. How Lelouch will get out of this one will be a toughie, but knowing just how clever he is, he’ll get himself out of it. Well that, or some freak miracle happens.

Speaking of which, looks like we finally learn the truth about the status of Lelouch’s Geass. So it turns out it’s still permanent, but with the use of… a contact lens (or just about anything blocking the light) the case is solved. I’m still wondering though exactly how he snuck out like that. I mean, I know he told Shirley he was so maybe he did go, just before Milly, Rivalz, and Rolo show up at the location. I say, using those two guys was brilliant. Oh, and Lelouch looks way better dressed in raggedy clothing, hobo-style is in apparently.

Another thing to note of was the new pieces of music heard, specifically during the “countdown” and thereafter. Really awesome stuff, Kotaro!

P.S. finally get to see C.C. in her new slick, black attire. All is right with the world.
