Gundam 00 ep. 20

[ Episode 20: The Blades of Change ]

Okay. If anyone is starting to weird me out, it is Wang Liu Mei. What is her deal exactly? She claims that she follows the ideals of CB’s creator and doesn’t lean toward either the main CB or the Trinity Gundams. Yet, she is willing to lend her support to the Trinity Gundam Meisters because they brought about the current change in the world (that is, uniting to fight against CB). Why exactly does she hate the world so much? Does it have something to do with her family or friends? Or is it something else? I’m guessing that won’t be explored until the second season later this year but we could get a tiny glimpse before the first season ends.

It’s great that all three world factions now have GN Drives. Now we’ll be seeing battles that are dependent upon skill rather than technology which we got a glimpse of in this episode. The Trinity siblings were pushed back quite effectively but I’d rather see a 3-on-3 fight rather than a 10-on-3 fight where the odds of winning are closer to zero than one can calculate. Kinue seems to have been fatally wounded by the cruel douchebag Ali. I’m guessing her status will be known in the next episode. Lastly, I would have never thought that Veda was located on the Moon. I can only wonder what plans Alejandro and his ‘angel’ have up their sleeves though…

Shakugan no Shana Second ep. 22

[ Episode 22: Christmas Eve ]

I was pretty surprised to see that Sabrac actually survived the previous battle. He didn’t even seem to have any wounds…which is beyond odd to me. I can only guess that he somehow switched his real self out at the very moment Shana was going for the kill. Anyway, skipping all of the love-dovey content, I was pretty surprised that Hecate showed up the way she did and just blatantly yanked out the Reiji Maigo out of Yuji. Of course I knew Bal Masque was up to something but it was still unexpected. What does this mean for Yuji, I wonder? He’s going to have to get that back, but how? Two episodes remain in this second season and at this rate a cliffhanger or a temporary resolution type of ending are both equally possible. I wonder if we’re going to get a glimpse of some hissing though…

Bleach ep. 165

[ BLEACH #165]

Now this is what I’m talking about! Ichigo vs. Grimmjow was one of the more exciting fights for me in the manga and it’s a joy to see it finally animated. One of the things I’ve been waiting to see in motion was Grimmjow’s Gran Rey Cero. It looked pretty damn awesome when I first saw it in the manga and the animation team did a wonderful job with it. I wasn’t expecting it to be blue-ish in color though. Still, the fight is moving faster than I expected and I had thought it would have been stretched a bit. The fight is already moving into its second stage. Well, they could extend that part but I doubt it for now. On another note, I found Ulquiorra being trapped so hilarious. Why? Well, even in the current chapters of the he still hasn’t broken out of that place yet. Grimmjow’s estimation was about 2-3 hours…which really warps the mind since it’s sometimes hard to believe so little time passed over months of chapters/episodes.

Bleach will be back on the 9th of April so that’s a two-week break which should help out the manga a bit. I’m still thinking of how they’re going to switch to an anime original arc though…

NARUTO: Shippuuden ep. 50

[ Episode 50: The Picture Book's Story ]

Not as good as the last but still a decent episode. One thing that had me thinking was concerning Sai’s past. I don’t recall that being in the manga nor recall his brother’s face being shown before. I may be wrong since I haven’t seen these chapters of the manga for quite a long time so I may have totally forgotten about it if it really is there. I do remember Sai’s smile though and it still looks kind of odd seeing him smiling genuinely for the first time. Oh yeah, I got to have my laughs this week as well! Come on, what are you thinking when you have time to sit down in the enemy’s base to chill out and draw stuff? Talk about letting down one’s guard. Anyway, Sasuke’s real appearance will be in the next episode which is a wonderful 1-hour special and I’ve already forgotten how many of those there have been already.

Shakugan no Shana Second ep. 21

[ Episode 21: Combined Might ]

Now that was an awesome conclusion to an epic battle. Quite a few episodes ago I would have never thought that Yuji would be the one to come up with a plan to defeat someone as powerful as Sabrac. It just goes to show that he’s improved at an insane rate since the start of the second season. I didn’t see the counter-spell that Wilhelmina revealed coming at all either. Though when she did I was struck with how much sense it made since she had fought him numerous times before with the Stigma in place. Oh, and I must say that she looked rather sexy when she activated the spell on her own body. :p

Now that Sabrac is gone, what’s next? There’s only so few episodes left and I doubt they’re going to tone things down into a love drama this late in the series so I’m sure something will happen. Perhaps Hecate will show up once more? Or maybe something might happen to the growing Yuji? Whatever it is I eagerly await it and hope it doesn’t disappoint after two consecutive awesome arcs.

Anime Awards 2007 ni Youkoso! Part 3 ~ ONE MORE FINAL

This one was a long time in coming but it’s finally here. It originally started off with Youko and I but with the addition of a new writer a few weeks back, Blade has now joined in for the final award entry. Most of our choices might or might not surprise you. We agree on some and differ greatly on others. These were some of the more difficult categories we came across and required some thought which is one factor as to why this entry took so long to come out.

I hope you enjoy this final installment to the Anime Awards 2007 and look forward to 2008’s at the end of the year. Now, jump the cut to view our ONE MORE FINAL!

Bleach ep. 164

[ BLEACH #164]

This was a really awesome episode. In the manga I didn’t really like the Szayel vs. Renji/Ishida fight all that much but animated I’m really enjoying it. I can’t put my finger on exactly why that is but as long as I’m having fun it doesn’t really matter. I noticed that they toned down Szayel’s healing method as well since in the manga he bit that Arrancar raw and spit out some remains instead of turning it into a ball. That’s not such a big deal I guess but it does take away from the WTF-factor.

The Ichigo vs. Grimmjow fight is going to be awesome but first we’re going to get a little scuffle between Grimmjow and Ulquiorra. That’s going to be pretty sweet to watch. Still though, this fight is going to stretch for some time from what I’ve heard especially given that the new anime original arc is starting next month (which I’m guessing will begin when the new OP debuts April 23rd). I still can’t figure out how they’re going to do that but I’m just going to enjoy all the manga stuff until that time comes.

Spice and Wolf ep. 10

[ Episode 10: Wolf and Spiraling Conspiracy ]

Wow…that was a pretty intense episode. I didn’t see the loss on the armor bit coming at all. I mean sure, a few people acted weird in the previous episode but I would have never thought it was going to be something of this magnitude. Now Lawrence is in a huge debt and hasn’t come up with a solution yet to repay the debt. He’s on the verge of being bankrupt and honestly his state of mind is something that I think very few can understand. Being in danger of being dirt poor is no laughing matter and I’m quite sure that such a threat would be taxing on the mind and nerves. As such his reaction at the end of the episode toward Horo is perfectly understandable. Sure, it was uncalled for but Lawrence is a human like everyone else and his behavior wasn’t outside of reason.

As for the next episode, I’m guessing that Horo may come up with a way to get Lawrence out of debt once they patch things up. Nora is likely to be in it as well and it’d be great if she came to help as well.
