Kita ze Inbou! - キタぜ陰謀!

[ Episode 2: Kuonji Days ]

Giant robots, off the wall comedy, yuri and even masochism?! Is there something this anime doesn’t have? This episode shows us one think it lacks: a pace.

This has been a surprisingly simple episode compared to the one we had last week. The main premise is Ren and Mihato’s training at the Kuonji’s residence and the overall decision of Shinra to accept them or not, which by now we all know it’s quite obvious she will.

The main problem with this specific episode, is that it doesn’t know what it want to be. At first we have, probably the best scene of the entire episode, with Ren confronting Mecha-Taisa in his dreams. Quite imaganitive compared to the Kamehameha match we had the first episode. Then, all of a sudden, it returns to a regular maid anime with Ren and Mihato taking care of the many tasks… Natose and Yume cuddling in the bed… Shinra licking cream out of Miyu’s cheek… After that, when we see Yume’s school, we get to know Mi, the masochistic shy girl who likes to touch her boobs when she is hurt. A funnier duo of characters is Kuki Ageha and her butler Kojuro, and the two serve slapstick humor to the show, contrast to the more “adult” tones of the other characters.

The worst part of the episode was probably the last minutes. The whole plot with the missing ferret and Ren accidentally breaking the Kuonji family vase seemed to be thrown in at the last minute. Although Tomokazu Seki did a good job of portraying the mortified Ren after smashing the vase and harming the critter, I just see the scene as a lame excuse of “advancing” the plot, but all it really did is bringing it backwards. Making Ren look bad at the last few minutes of the episode just to create a suspense before Shinra’s final decision did ruin it for me, because we already know that Ren, after all he did the episode, deserves to stay. Overall, it’s an okay episode that has some bright moments, but I expect more character development now that we had two exposition episodes.
