Spice and Wolf ep. 4

[ Episode 4: Wolf and Helpless Partner ]

I never thought I’d say this about Wolf and Spice but, damn, that was an intense episode! I honestly didn’t expect the story to go in the direction it just took. The episode started out with the the investigation behind Zeiren and the company that was backing him on the whole silver coin scheme.
It’s time like this being a business and accounting major pays off so damn well. ^^ Being able to follow the whole economic aspect of this show is pretty easy for me despite it taking place in the times when there were many currencies floating around and fighting for dominance in worth. It just goes to show that for-profit businesses will always have one ultimate goal that surpasses all others: to gain a profit with very little sacrifice in regards to investments and resources. I’m quite interested in hearing more about this battle between the two companies and if it will get more complex.
As for the Horo and Lawrence things has just turned up a notch or two. I have no idea who the hell that person is in the cloak but it’s obvious that Horo knows the person (I just love how the preview gives nothing away). It’s hard to tell what’s going to happen now especially since the preview doesn’t tell us anything and Lawrence has yet to decide how he will move to find and save Horo. I’m not sure how much help he’ll get from Milone, if any at all, but he needs to move quickly if the other guys have the intention of moving Horo away from that city.
Oh yes, and Horo’s eyes glowing in the dark was awesome. :3

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was half-expecting/half-hoping for Horo to kick all those guys’ asses. ^^
I wonder what Lawerence is going to do now? Having admitted who Horo is…I can’t really see anyone believeing him. Even at the village it seemed to have become something of a legend and folktale, even though she was literally right under their noses. And she was the harvest god of just one village. It’s not like she’d be famous all over the countryside.
Heck, it didn’t even seem like Lawerence was familiar with the legend and he had previously visited that village for what seemed like many times.
Superstition and bigotry doesn’t seem like a major theme of this series, but maybe that’ll change in the next episode?
Well it doesn’t seem like the two guys he told don’t believe him. Hopefully they do and can help him in some way even if it is minute.
Horo…probably would have done something if ‘that person’ didn’t show up since she was already growling and backed up with no where to go. As for knowledge of her existence I’m guessing it’s not unreasonable to think that the legends about her would spread outside of the village or perhaps something similar happened to the comrades she mentioned in the episode.
