[ Episode 1: Confession ]

I’m sure many of seen this episode already so I’m going to be direct with my thoughts.

I love the art of Shigofumi as well as the soundtrack. Hearing Ueda Kana as Fumika is a blessing to my ears as I loved her in her roles in shows like Pani Poni Dash, Neuro, and Manabi Straight. It’s a little difficult to describe how I feel while watching it but I can say that it does give off similar vibes to that of Jigoku Shoujo and Shinigami no Ballad. Yet, it isn’t like either of them and has its own identity. I find the concept of delivering letters from the dead quite interesting and a refreshing touch on the theme of death. While the episode played out rather normally with a boy trying his best to confess to the girl he likes it all comes crashing down at the end when he finds out that she killed her own father. Of course he refuses to believe it and goes running to her but Fumika soon shows up and while his back his turned and he turns around, he is stabbed in the chest by Asuna.

I couldn’t believe it! Her personality took did a complete 180 and she didn’t even bat an eye after stabbing him and then goes after Fumika. Of course, I had to smile near the end because I highly doubt she can do anything to Fumika no matter how hard she tries. Still though, her actions really shocked me and has me wondering just how she ended up in that state. I have my suspicions after seeing the scene where Fumika stops and looks at the room with a bed in it and I’m sure they’ll be confirmed in the next episode.

Overall, this has to be among the best first episodes of the winter shows. I mean, wow. It was amazing. I’m 100% certain that no one saw the conclusion coming unless they read the light novels. I like unpredictability like that and along with all the other awesome qualities it has, this show has solidified a place in my blogging line-up as I’m left craving for more.

JC Staff, you are awesome.
