Gundam 00 ep. 14

[ Episode 14: Dawn of Determination ]

So a huge war is about to start in the guise of an “exercise”. Only the public and a fool would believe the latter. Like it was said in the episode, moving troops and especially mobile suits costs a ton of money and they’re only spending that money for one thing: for a chance to capture a Gundam. I’m pretty sure that this means that the Gundam Meisters are going to be in trouble. Sure they have very advanced mobile suits but constant fire and seemingly endless enemies coming at them will even take a toll on the Gundams if it lasts long enough.

As for the characters I had various thoughts during the episode. Regarding Saji and Louise, I’m wondering when their importance will come to light. Aside from giving us a civilian viewpoint of the events taking place in the world and providing some comic relief they really haven’t done anything noteworthy as yet. Sumeragi yet again intrigues me and again she makes me interested in where her character development is heading. Oh, and I can’t not mention that wonderful fanservice shot of her coming out of the shower. :P

Setsuna visiting Marina in the middle of the night surprised me. I laughed a little at how he went out of his way to ask her such an unexpected question and only listened to part of the answer before he was gone. He’s a pretty odd guy at times but he should at least have exchanged numbers with her or something if he is going to be asking her more questions in the future lol. Still though, that was pretty damn surreal if you ask me.

The new OP and ED are pretty good. The sequences are pretty interesting as well. I’m wondering what was going on in the ED though and if that thing all the characters saw in the sky will have any relevance later on in the story. As for the songs themselves I think that they suit the series just wonderfully though I’m not ready to say if I like them better than the first OP and ED just yet.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot: This episode ushers in the return of the AEU’s greatest ace! Patrick! :P

The sinful bodies of Celestial Being. Do what you will with them! That’s what they’re there for!

Where did you get that they were having a war without calling it a war? I thought they were setting up a trap for Celestial Being while calling it a joint exercise? If it’s something someone in Celestial Being said, it’s a matter of opinion, not a fact they’re fighting for the hell of it.

A war. A trap. It’s all the same to me. A war to capture one of the Gundams. It’s blatantly obvious to my eyes given that all three nations are going out there. You think that they’re going to let each other capture a Gundam and they leave with nothing? You must be joking.

And I don’t know why you assume it was someone in Celestial Being who would have said it. A little too quick to jump on them, aren’t you? After all, Ali Al-Saachez that called it a war at the end of the episode.

At no point did anyone refer to the joint exercise as a war. Even Ali seemed to be speaking general terms.

The sad thing is, after rewatching the episode, I may end up not liking anyone in the show. “No matter what, we have to get a Gundam.” and that’s said in the context of administration and party rule, not what’s in the best interest of their country. On the other hand, defeating Celestial Being would probably boost their popularity, regardless of capturing a Gundam. There’s still time to not shoot themselves in the foot as far as I’m concerned.

I also didn’t like how they glossed over the fact that Celestial Being is causing a collapse of the global economy. I suppose I could just look at it as Celestial Being causing everyone to become desperate with their super-dickery.

I don’t need the characters to call the exercise a war. I already know that it’s a war to capture a Gundam from all the information given from every side involved in the “exercise”.

Everyone who doesn’t have a Gundam wants one or at least a piece of one. That won’t change now or in the future until they either capture one or build something just as good or better which can only be another Gundam.

Lol @ the economy part. I’m sorry but Celestial Being alone, barely a handful of people, can’t cause a global economy collapse. Governments and other authorities also have a very large role in such an event occurring. You’re just broadcasting your dislike for CB here by trying to pin the blame on them.

I didn’t pull “economic collapse” out of thin-air. It was refered to in the episode by the reporters. The economic downturn and ressions caused by Celestial Being’s interventions. Miss Stupid Reporter didn’t think that was worth her time though and instead wanted to continue pursuing Monocle Man.

Celestial Being is too small to stop war, but unstoppable enough to make everyone’s lives miserable. What’s worse is they don’t produce anything and contribute nothing to society. They won’t even consider sharing their miracle tech.

Wang said the nanomachines in “our bodies”. Does that mean everyone in Celestial Being has Allejuah’s little buddies floating around inside them?

  7. Leon January 23rd, 2008 6:30 pm

She meant everyone who travels into space has those nanomachines in them to reduce the strain being in space causes on the body.
