PERSONA - trinity soul -

Ever since I heard the announcement of this show some months back and also hearing that it took place ten years after the events of Persona 3, I was looking forward to its premiere. I have to say that it was a decent start even if it wasn’t the best of the season. One thing that I’m loving is that it seems that PERSONA ~trinity soul~ is looking to be a unique supernatural show on its own without relying on the game. Needless to say that there are a lot of questions in my head already regarding this episode and that is a good sign.

One thing that most Persona fans will notice right off the bat is that the Evokers are gone. The summoning of Personae are more reminiscent of the earlier Persona games, before the Evokers existed obviously. There can be a number of reasons why they didn’t go with that method such as it being inappropriate to show on television since it might give off a distorted message about suicide. Though I would find that to be rather funny given other things that have been shown in other anime. Anyway, this really shouldn’t bother viewers new to the show or those who played the previous Persona games before the third one.

The characters introduced so far haven’t really made a big impact yet but they are interesting enough. Ryo, the oldest brother, is a police chief and showed his ability to use his Persona to save a girl that I think will become significant in the next few episodes. So yeah, he’s pretty cool and on top of that Koyasu Takehito is voicing him. Shin is the next brother in line. I’m not really sure what to say about him yet except that it looks like he might have some complications with his Persona in the next episode. Lastly is Jun, the youngest brother. He had a twin sister named Yuki and from what he displayed in this episode either seems to have some sort of mental link with her (either as a spirit or possible Persona) or may have been damaged a quite a bit as a result of her death. Ryo might be thinking the latter after hearing him talk to himself in both his normal voice and a female voice.

Interestingly enough the one question that crossed my mind a few times was “Who is that red-haired girl?”. If you played Persona 3 you may have thought ‘Oh! It’s Mitsuri!” but it can’t be her, especially given the ten-year gap. Or maybe it is? Well, whoever she is I’m sure we’ll be finding out later on.

Overall, Persona ~trinity soul~ left a decent enough impression in my eyes. The animation is solid though not the best this season. I like what I’ve heard of the music so far, particularly that upbeat tune at the middle of the episode. Like I said before, there are a few questions that already have me hooked into the story and so I’m looking forward to more Persona ~trinity soul~.

Can you explain what happened with the murderer at the end? How come he didn’t turn inside out after losing his Persona?

His Persona was destroyed. The others who were turned inside-out had their Personae jacked/stolen from them.
