Dragonaut ep. 8

[ Episode 8: Parting -Echo from an Empty Sky- ]

You know something is wrong with you when you’d rather have a guy dragon over a big breasted woman dragon.

Yeah. Kazuki is making a name for himself as god-emo-asshole of the year so far. Seriously, it’s rare to see such a jackass actually make me sick to my stomach to the point where I want to puke. Acting as if he’s all high-and-mighty when Jin asked him to help him save Toa. I was so freaking glad when Gio gut-punched the little jackass earlier in the episode though. I really hope his character changes REALLY SOON because as he is right now all he really is to be honest is an annoyance.

As for the episode-ending surprise, I can’t say I didn’t see it coming. That is, Toa being the one who crashed into the shuttle two years ago. I’m guessing that it was a genuine accident though. It’s also pretty interesting that the other half of the bracelet is where Toa got her name from. I have to wonder how Jin is going to deal with this sudden revelation though.

Kazuki should have been angry at Jin for completely ignoring him since the shuttle incident instead of being angry at him for stealing his dragon.

Episode 8 wasn’t exactly high on the entertainment value. Somehow it’s not quite as fun to watch Widow in action as it is with others. She’s very slick with her weaving, but she’s attached herself to Kazuki whom she doesn’t have a real dynamic with.

    Yet.

Kazuki himself was surprisingly cool to me in this episode. Maybe it was how he’d be calm, but menancing one minute, and then extremely angry the next. He’s still ranting about Gio, but somehow I actually believed he was justified for feeling the way he does. The oddest part is how he’s practically turned into an entirely different person almost overnight.

The other Dragonauts don’t seem to approve of the change, but aren’t really interested in trying to baby him. They’ll let stupid run it’s course I guess. Akira tried and he pretty much ignored her, sort of like how Jin ignored him that one time.

    Jackie was spot on.

Toa’s kind of conflicted. On one hand, she’s apparently on some mission. On the other she wants to be with Jin. Underfoot is her apparent guilt over killing his whole family, but a turn of heel shows she both wants to tell him and to not tell him what happened.

And it’s all come full cycle this last episode.

She’s a very emotionally driven character. I think she gets away with it because she’s fairly simple otherwise and doesn’t play games. Honest to goodness Toa.

What I’m hoping for in the coming episodes is more developement of Widow. She hasn’t yet garnered the raw likeability most of the other characters have gained for themselves. I think we just need to get to know her a little more.

And of course, more Garnet stomping on people.

Speaking of whom, apparently the only reason why she carries a sword around with her is because, according to her, swords are cool. She recognizes the fact that to bring a sword to a gunfight is a stupid thing at best, but she just loves how elegant they are.

And her outfit is apparently bullet proof. Yeah, I know, but you know what they say in RPGs; the less armor you’re wearing the more effective it is.

Kazuki is freakin’ pissing me off. Either he’s really angry at Jin about Gio, or he’s putting the hurt he felt at being ignored when Jin left into the situation and lying about it really being about Gio. If it’s the former, he’s the worst! At least Suzaku’s got real stuff to be offended and mad at Lelouch about, but Kazuki’s just freakin’ PMSing.

I didn’t like Jin’s decision in this episode, though. He really doesn’t seem to care about his friendship with Kazuki anymore. That, and he was willing to give up Gio for Toa. I felt so betrayed, especially when he said the three of them were going to be together. He should’ve found a way to keep them both, even to go as far as betraying Kazuki, since like I mentioned, it seemed to gave up on that friendship two years ago.

I don’t even know what to say about Toa. I’ve got issues with almost everyone this episode xD I think the only one I like now is Widow.

About the Jin thing, Gio was never his to “give back” to Kazuki though. I’m sure that if Gio wasn’t convinced with Jin’s answer about protecting Toa he wouldn’t have gone. Though, as much as I hate to admit it, the overall situation couldn’t be helped what with asking that jackass for help.

Kazuki is not a jackass. He’s just acting crazy for some reason. One thing you can be grateful about is that so far things are moving along at a decent pace. I can’t say anything is getting stale, aside from maybe Toa, but she’s consistent and I don’t think she puts on an act to hide how she feels.

Well, everyone’s view on what a jackass is probably differs.

In my eyes, when a person “acts crazy” for childish reasons on top of cutting their hair in the most ridiculous style I’ve ever seen and plaster on an expression of a smug jackass/”evil dood” then…yes, they or more specifically, Kazuki is a jackass. Or asshole. Either one is suitable for him at the moment.

It’s just I’m not convinced he’s got his heart in it. He seems quite desperate to me. Irrationally so. I was actually somewhat surprised he could manage to be coherent at all in this last episode.

His heart probably isn’t 100% into it but that haircut of his at least shows that some of it is LOL.

He didn’t bite Widow’s head off for failing to get Gio, even though she’s sort of asking for you it, you know? I hope he has some personal scenes with her at some point.

I guess he can’t bite her head off because she isn’t his to begin with. And she’s the one helping him after all.
