Shakugan no Shana The Movie ~ 90/100

Movie Information

ANN Encyclopedia | AniDB | AnimeNfo
Producers: J.C.STAFF
Genres: Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Romance, Supernatural
ED: [Tenjou wo Kakeru Monotachi] by Love Planet Five
Duration: 86 minutes
劇場版 「灼眼のシャナ」

Yeah, I’m late on my thoughts on the movie but does it really matter? Of course not, since I’m going to jump to my main points. I’ve anticipated this film ever since it was first announced and now that I’ve finally seen it I’m blown away. Sure, it is a retelling of the first few episodes of the first season but it largely improves on those episodes with magnificent theatre-quality animation, the return of the superb soundtrack and an excellent movie theme/insert song by the lovely Kawada Mami and ED theme by Love Planet Five. There are a few things that are different though the main one is the ending which has Alastor with a larger role than before, basically laying the smackdown on Friagne in epic proportions. I think I watched this at the right time as well since Shana Second, so far, hasn’t been as exciting or epic as this movie is all-around. I can only hope that the second season starts to have a similar pace as well as a battle as intense as Shana and Margery vs. Friagne.

Bamboo Blade ep. 5

[ Episode 5: Muroe High and Machido High ]

Hell yes. The practice matches have begun! Just seeing the preparation and the arrival of the other team got me psyched. I know who the fifth member is from the OP alone and I’ve seen her pass by in a few of the past episodes but I’m still wondering if she’s going to show up in the next episode or not in time to make the match. Kojiro seems to be bluffing about a fifth member coming (I must say I liked his analogy about the fifth member using super sentai terms again though lol). Hopefully though we’ll be seeing her soon. I’m so excited to see these matches even though they’re just practice matches. I feel that they’ll just be a taste for the official/tournament matches that will occur some time in the future episodes.

Bamboo Blade ep. 4

[ Episode 4: Pink and Blue ]

Bamboo Blade keeps on getting better with each passing episode. This episode focuses on Sayako and Miya-Miya who are my two favorites in the show right now. Sayako definitely brings a ton of comedy to the show and I’m looking forward to seeing more of her. Miya-Miya just rubs me the right way so gently. :P Her true self is just as cute if not more so than the version she uses most of the time and it shows especially when she goes to apologize to Sayako and when she’s hitting on her opponents (Kirino and Sayako). It’s good to see that she and Sayako seem to be getting along quite well already as well. That’s going to be key for the development of the entire team. ^^

Rental Magica ep. 8

[ Episode 8: Hot Springs Magic ]

Hot springs! Hot springs! :P

Yes, if it wasn’t obvious this is more or less a hot springs episode. I say more or less because there really wasn’t that much fanservice in it at all. Unless, of course, you consider bare backs hot… Everyone, including Addy, worked together yet again in trying to fix the mountain leyline and lifting up a massive rock. It was nice to see Kuroha also helping out as well. What exactly are her powers though? Ghost magic? xD Anyways, this episode was pretty much 100% comedy though. I especially loved the bits where Addy and Honami were imagining themselves being with Itsuki as their reward for being the first one to find a potent enough hot spring to help with the healing of his eye. :P

Rental Magica ep. 7

[ Episode 7: The Girl with Red Hair ]

Well, well now. I must say that the English version of the OP was quite a surprise. It sounded really, really good. I already grabbed the single but I have yet to check if both the Japanese and English versions are in there. As for the episode, things are getting intense now it seems. With the introduction of two new characters, the first being Lapis - a red-haired little girl who is a homunculus - and the second being a guy who was one of the founding members of Astral - Eudaiches Tholoide. He’s obviously after Itsuki but for what exact reason isn’t clear as yet. I’m quite interested to see where this plotline will take us and what effect it’ll have on our favorite magic company. Though I must say that I like Lapis. She’s so cute. Just like Mikan-chan. ^__^

Rental Magica ep. 6

[ Episode 6: Glam Sight ]

Damn. This episode was even better than the previous one (it’s a continuation to the Addy arc)! Itsuki was so badass at the end when he used his Glam Sight. :P I’m glad to finally know what Glam Sight does though. I had expected that he could see his enemies movements but I didn’t think of him being able to see their flow and other related elements (of emotions). From the discussion Honami and Neko had at the end though, it seems as if using that eye too frequently can cause the user to lose their sanity. Well, such a downside was to be expected with such a powerful eye. I wonder if he gets a power-up from the eye as well? Since, he ran VERY fast on a broken leg and managed to punch through magic (not to mention music and direction can do a lot for what is seemingly a simple punch :P). Either way it’s really nice to see that Itsuki really is a reliable guy in-battle. ^^;

Rental Magica ep. 5

[ Episode 5: Magi Night ]

This was a pretty damn good episode. I wasn’t expecting to see anything on the level that was shown (magic-wise of course). I’m glad that Adelicia is apart of the plot as well now that we know her father is a mage that broke a taboo - becoming magic itself. I’m guess we might see a flashback or two of how he did such a thing to himself and the impact it had on Adelicia, even though she doesn’t seem to be bothered by it that much right now. Still, I want to see some more from her magic-wise since she has shown that has the ability to summon some strong familiars. As for Itsuki, I wonder what’s up with his eye telling him to “look”? He even asked about it himself in the bit after the ED theme. I suppose we’ll find out soon enough. :P

Ghost Hound ep. 5

[ Focus 05: Out of Body Experience ]

Lots of good stuff came up in this episode. Our three male protagonists are pretty much friends now. We’re also shown the problems that each of them have to face daily. Taro is in constant fear of his mother snapping; Makoto is being hassled by his mad grandmother to take over the family religion; and Masayuki has to deal with what appears to be a dysfunctional family relationship. It just goes to show you everyone has their issues they must endure. Miyako is still a bit in the dark for me at the moment. She doesn’t seem to have a problem but her father seems to think she has a personality disorder or something. I’d really like to know when or if she’ll be joining up with the boys soon though.

Next episode seems to be pretty good. There’s no sign of Makoto though it looks like Taro and Masayuki will be running around/investigating. Probably looking for that old man that saw them as spirits at the end of the episode. It looks like Miyako will be getting more screen time as well. ^__^
