[ Episode 4: Foreign Negotiations ]

Sumeragi, Soma, Marina, Wang Liu Mei…so many wonderful ladies. And yet so little time to spread myself around to all of them.

I found this episode to be quite entertaining. I had wondered myself what action Celestial Being would take against Taribia when they declared themselves independent from the Union. At first I thought they would attack both Taribia and the Union/American forces but didn’t expect them to just focus on the former. When I thought about it afterwards, I thought that it was the correct decision since they did incite the potential war in the first place. Though I wouldn’t have minded if they slapped around the Union/American forces a bit at all.

I think it’s about time the story shifts to the pilots and other important characters. In this episode we got a tiny bit of development of Setsuna. I found it interesting how he wasn’t affected by the nightmare-vision that occurred all around him. It really seems that he isn’t bothered by violence at all though given the prologue involving him I’m not surprised really. We got quite a bit of development from Marina and found out that she is a recently appointed Queen. It’s obvious that she’s bothered by war so I think it’s going to be interesting to see how she and Setsuna interact later as the OP sequence suggests that they will have some sort of relationship. Her attendance is quite the woman though…she really doesn’t mince words.

This episode also introduces us to super-soldier Soma Peiris. I’ve been waiting for her to appear since the first episode and I’m quite pleased to hear about her being a super-soldier. I’m hoping that she [and the other super-soldiers] are more like Newtypes (specifically Artificial aka normal humans being granted Newtype abilities). Speaking of Newtypes, it looks like Allelujah will be experiencing a Newtype Flash in the next episode which also focuses on a part of his past. Now I’m beginning to wonder if Setsuna, Lockon, and Tieria will have Newtype Flashes as well.
