Kita ze Inbou! - キタぜ陰謀!

ef - a tale of memories ep. 1

[ Episode 1: eve ]

Thus begins the tale of memories…

Now that was certainly an interesting premiere. I really liked the way the episode focused on two couples, Hiro and Miyako and Renji and Chihiro. Renji and Chihiro are easily the cutest pair so far. I loved seeing them interact with each other to the point where I was already getting attached to their characters. I think I’m going to enjoy watching them for the rest of the series. Hiro and Miyako are an interesting pair that met in the most unorthodox way. Chasing after a thief, crashing, and then giving up on the thief which led to them talking was a decent flow of events. They’re going to be an interesting pair to look out for as well. Kei interests me quite a bit and I’m wondering about her relationship with Hiro and Chihiro. Are the three of them literal brother and sisters, I wonder? Yuuko and Yuu are also mysterious at the moment seeing as both of them were waiting at the church in the exact same spot for “someone”. Just who this “someone” may be isn’t at all clear but I’m thinking that they’re probably waiting on each other. Though I’m pretty sure I might be wrong. Kyousuke seems to be interested in Kei as he did take a photo of her as she was running on the street (and then later analyzing it on his computer) only to piss off his girlfriend. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens there.

As expected of SHAFT the animation is gorgeous and the directing style is unique with lots of artistic touches and camera angles. The music is beautiful though I really want to hear that song that played in the prologue and that plays on the official site. Overall, this show has a lot potential to be one of the best of the season and I’m going to be sticking with it to the end. Here’s hoping that SHAFT keeps the quality of everything consistent.

I found the camera usage distracting.

woot another person who can appreciate Shaft’s approach! The community is so split on this. It’s like a war!

Yeah, I’ve always loved SHAFT’s style of animation and directing. As such it makes me enjoy ef even more since it shares similarities with many of the other SHAFT works.
