[ Episode 1: Renting Useful Magic ]

Renting magic…I’ve never thought of that as an actual business venture. I must do some market research ASAP!

I really liked this premiere. The characters are lovable and the atmosphere is so inviting. Itsuki is a decent male lead so far. I like his modesty and the fact that he has an ability that’s different from the usual even though it’s difficult to tell exactly what it is. Nekoyashiki is awesome. He’s got lots of cats and a Gin-like aura going for him. I’m particularly interested seeing more of Adelicia as well and the other girls in the company. It’s funny though how they keep on calling him useless even though he seems to be on top of things, especially when it came down to dealing with the possessed grandfather at the end. His orders were so precise that it’s insane.

I also like the mix of magical presence here. Solomanic magic, Shinto, Onmyoudou, are examples of what is present in Rental Magica and may require notes for some who are not familiar with such beliefs. A sub I watched (Shinsen’s to be exact) had a good amount of notes present after the episode had aired and it was really interesting to see some things expanded upon that I didn’t quite know about in detail. I’d recommend checking out their version if you’re interested in learning some new stuff.

Anyways, this was an enjoyable episode and I had fun throughout it. There wasn’t an OP this week but it should be present in the next episode but I did rather like the ED theme. I’m looking forward to that single already. This is looking to be my Sunday show but I’ll have to decide whether it’ll be alone or a combination of this and either Minami-ke or Prism Ark. I’ll just have to wait and see.
