School Days ep. 12 [END] + Review ~ 77/100

[ Episode 12: School Days ]
School Days has finally ended and Makoto is DEAD. I mean, holy shit, this ending transcends any of the game endings. This episode is so straight to the point that it hardly requires a detailed summary. The events basically play out like this: With Kotonoha now regaining her sanity she and Makoto get back together. Meanwhile, Sekai had finished cooking dinner for Makoto at his place only to find out that he was eating with Kotonoha at some expensive restaurant. Eventually the three meet, Sekai slaps Kotonoha and she tells Sekai about how she betrayed her first and reveals Setsuna’s feelings for Makoto as well. After a devastated Sekai leaves after seeing Kotonoha and Makoto make out everything spirals out of control from there. After receiving a message from Makoto to get an abortion for the baby Sekai goes to meet Makoto at his home. Much silence is present between the two and eventually Makoto gets a message on his cellphone. He’s surprised to see it’s from Sekai and as he turns around, he gets repeatedly stabbed by Sekai to death. I can only imagine how many people are celebrating that! XD

From there Kotonoha discovers the body and immediately goes to meet Sekai. After some words about who was Makoto’s girlfriend and Sekai puking after seeing Makoto’s severed head, the girls start to fight. Kotonoha pulls out her saw while Sekai tries to defend herself with the knife she killed Makoto with but gets it knocked away and Kotonoha ends it all by slices her neck. OH SHI-! Kotonoha then cuts Sekai open and basically says “Just as I thought! There wasn’t any baby in here!”. Best. Line. EVER. And yup, Kotonoha freaking lost it. Cut to a yacht sailing towards the sunset where Kotonoha is Makoto’s head and saying “We’re finally together Makoto-kun!”. Thus ends School Days after some monologue by the now deceased Makoto. Some seriously f*cked up shit, ya?!
So, with seeing this episode I can say that the stations were right in pulling this episode from their schedules. Why? It’s obvious, this episode was just too damn bloody and it would have been inappropriate to air it after the tragic incident last week. About Sekai’s death…I can’t really say she deserved that harsh of a punishment even if she did betray Kotonoha first but who am I to second guess Kotonoha-sama’s judgment? That aside I only have one thing to say for this episode: LOL MAKOTO IS DEAD!

[ Final Thoughts ]
School Days was a rather uncomfortable and, at times, hilarious series to sit down and watch. It did a great job at creating drama. That much is evident because all the characters had some sort of strain on their relationships with each other. Though they did that the majority of the characters weren’t really that likable nor where they developed as much. The only ones that really stood out were Setsuna, Kotonoha, Sekai, and Makoto. Well, it does make sense since they are the main characters of the show but things were only interesting when those four interacted with each other. The one other thing this show excelled at was making you hate the characters. Each person has a character they hate but I’m sure everyone who watched this has one in common. Yes, I’m talking about he who is scum: Makoto. Along with Setsuna, Kotonoha, and Sekai, he is one of the most realistic characters in the show. That is by no means a good thing necessarily. Why? There are many assholes like him in real life who treat girls just as bad if not worse. There are a lot of Kotonoha’s as well who let their friends and boyfriends walk all over them until it becomes too much to bear and eventually breaks down. The Sekai’s out there, while not usually setting up their friends with someone else and then sleeping with them, do betray their friends and while feeling guilty about it they eventually push it aside and fully indulge in their selfish desires. Setsuna…is a rather special case. She did grate on my nerves by interfering with Kotonoha and Makoto, not because I liked them together but really because she had no right in doing so whether it was for Sekai or not and came off as a bitch. Though the main reason is because I didn’t want her to get involved in that love triangle and, well, end up dead. That said, she was and still one of my favorite characters in this show. The other being Kotonoha.

In the end though, the charm of this show was most likely seeing how badly things would be messed up among the characters and anticipating who would finally put Makoto out of his misery. That chosen one was Sekai but the chosen one was immediately taken out by Kotonoha who, by the end of the final episode, had already lost her mind. Seriously, her hugging that head is creepy and the music just made it so even more. So, the question now is, would I recommend this to show to others? It depends really. I would if the person wants to see something new, have a good laugh, see the dark sides of humans, and learn to hate a character with a passion (read: Makoto), then yes I would. However, if they are looking for a school romance with relationships that don’t feel forced and with characters that have genuine feelings for each other then I wouldn’t. There are shows out there that are much better and more appropriate like KGNE or I”s Pure. School Days is in a genre of it’s own and, whether you love it or hate it, makes a mark in anime history as one of the most hyped series of its time. I wouldn’t call the series amazing or great but it was very entertaining. The rating I gave this probably wouldn’t have been so high if it wasn’t for Kotonoha delivering the best line anime history or using shunpo on Sekai. So for her sake I bumped it up a little. Honestly, if you take this show too seriously you may end up giving yourself a headache but it still teaches a valuable lesson even if you were like many others who had a good laugh each episode and that is to not f*ck around with more than one girl. Otherwise, karma will bite you in the ass in one way or another. Either way, I’m certainly not going to forget about School Days any time soon.

Im a Sekai fan and was devastated at how easily she was taken care of by Kotonoha =/ I mean, Kotonoha jsut straight up overpowered her…
Oh well, at least Makoto got what he deserved! Also, reading all the discussion about how Sekai might have lied about the baby jsut to get Makoto has had me thinking alot too… hmmm
I find it interesting how she was supposedly pregnant yet she went up to the rooftop. Me thinks she was looking for some death because I’m sure she knew Makoto was pretty dead when she left him. Who else but Kotonoha could have been the one to call her out?
I think in the end the anime was interesting to watch. Like you said, if you take it seriously you are going to be annoyed with everything. I felt a bit bad for Makoto since he seemed start to have a clue that what he was doing was wrong.
I think Kotonoha’s line was BRILLIANT and probably made the show a million times more enjoyable then it was. It also brings a whole other layer of discussion. Was she or wasn’t she? If Sekai was pregnant it makes her a bit more likable, if she wasn’t…. it kind of makes it seem that one girls selfish behavior and heartlessness towards everyone caused a lot of what was going on. Personally I’m leaning towards she wasn’t pregnant since the anime seemed to do a good job at blaming Sekai.
It’s hard to say really. On one hand she was missing her period and vomiting even though there are times where those signs don’t necessarily the girl is pregnant. The doubt starts to come in with when she goes to the rooftop. I mean, she was obviously expecting to fight with Kotonoha since she brought the knife and all but why even go when she’s supposed to be pregnant? One can argue that she wasn’t in her right mind but that area is more of Kotonoha’s expertise.
letsa hava peaka IN YOUR WOMB.
well… that was pretty messed up.
quite enjoyable yes?
cheers.
I don’t know if Sekai knew what exactly to expect, but yeah she did bring the knife with her. Actually, the real lesson of this show was that if you don’t use protection, you end up dead.
Except it is from a bladed weapon, instead of STDs, but same idea. Notice how all the other girls used protection (from their comments about how surprised they were that Sekai was pregnant), and they are all still doing fine.
Lol. Hikari was the one that outright stated they were using protection. I assume Otome’s lackeys did the same as well since they seem to do that kind of thing frequently.
Well, well, well…
Finally, after almost seventeen hours since I came across with the first screenshot that confirmed Makoto’s dead and a bad end; I was able to saw the episode. Holy God, I don’t know why, but after so long I have desired his dead, when that fact was registered by my mind, I felt pity for him, most likely because that drove Kotonoha to her edge and then… well, she finished off Sekai. Now I agree it was a smart move to remove the episode last week, regardless of whatever the media in Japan could have said about anime becoming a bad influence for the young people. Come on, this world is rotten everywhere, anything could be a bad example to encourage someone to do bad things. This decision was more for dignity than anything else.
Analyzing the episode block by block; I found out very odd how they showed us at the end how everything went without them like nothing. Sure, you can mound dead people for that long, but come on, three people gone missing; two dead for sure and one more surely died (Kotonoha) in the deeps of the ocean. For me that’s signal of how everyone who were involved with those three their relationship were; almost like nothingness. At least five girls slept with Makoto, his friend raped Kotonoha and was behind her; and finally if you knew their background, you could guess something had happened between them. I guess with this the producers showed us how trivial Makoto, Sekai and Kotonoha’s existence were for the people around them. At least Otome was in love with Makoto, but the other girls only went after carnal desires. Then Takeshi only lusted after Kotonoha, nothing more and nothing else. In the end, each and every character in the series only looked after themselves, only Setsuna tried to fight for her friend, suppressing her own emotions in the process. I’m starting to feel how this can be reflected on today’s society. Remember Columbus, Virginia, they were people who lost their path in this life, much like Sekai and Kotonoha in this last episode. The human being can be a fearsome existence to itself.
In the end, the one affected the most was Kotonoha. She really loved Makoto since the beginning; I know Sekai loved him the same way, but she did a bit mistake for letting her inability to express her feelings overcome Makoto’s pleading when he asked her for help with Kotonoha. Do you know, this reminds me of Shuffle, on how ASA used KAEDE to approach RIN; eventually RIN fall in love with her, but that was a cheap trick. The same could be said about KIMI GA NOZOMU EIEN, when everything ended in tragedy when those feelings weren’t said; and Sakura had to pay the price for that. Sekai was guilty, but then Kotonoha was navy for not making a move right away after catching Makoto cheating on her with Sekai. I don’t blame her, she was still too innocent; she putted her entire trust on him, and then when he started to think with his pants, Kotonoha lost her innocence forever, in many ways. The only one who didn’t deserve a sad end was her, and only her.
Seriously, when we get involved so deep within something, is hard to draw the line between reality and fantasy. I guess that’s one of the main reasons why an anime can be banned in such cases like was School Days finale. I had to stop watching the RAWs for episodes nine, ten and eleven, because after episode eight; I spend the entire week thinking about it, even when I was doing something I like it very much; my mind was somewhere else, thinking, guessing, hopping, longing. Is not a bad thing, but states clear certain pattern that you have to observe with concern. As I said before, not only anime can drive you to this situation, everything can be a cataclysm for good or bad things.
With this I close one of the weirdest and pleasant experiences on my entire life.
Sarabata School Days…
Sarabata Kotonoha, the innocent lamb
Sarabata Sekai, the careless shipper
Sarabata Makoto, the brainless wolf
I read here about it and watched just the last episode. Of course I can’t hate Makoto as much as those who watched the whole but I think understood everything in one episode. ^^ And I just can say: oLoLoLoLo
For just one episode it was really nice. ^^
When kotonaha said “I’ll introduce you to a good hospital” - that being said can only mean kotonaha herself had to go there for u know.
I’m not sure if Sekai was pregnant and kotonoha cant really tell if there was a baby (early stages about… less then a month)?
I’m sure the athletic Sekai cant be beaten by kotonaha but if sekai was pregnant… she would be weakened!?
I really cant blame Sekai for provoking Makoto, its all Makoto’s fault for being unfaithful and for becoming a sexual beast that needed to be controlled by Sekai’s claim that she is pregnant or by killing Makoto.
6/10
I read that the uncut version is much more graphic. I think I’d rather watch that once it’s on DVD.
Yeah. The blood is of course red and the scenes with Makoto getting stabbed are continuous with no flashbacks from what I’ve read. This version was just as good though and better than waiting until February/March of next year to see it.
You know, Chagum has grown into a real lady killer. They’ll be knocking his door down provided he survives.
Whahaha Makoto death!!! lets all dance and have a party.
I have never seen such a idiot in a anime before(makoto).
Humans are evil and are dark beings…i agree with that, and i kinda 120% agree with sekai killing makoto (BANZAI!)
Well the entire fault lies at makoto. I wanted him death from episode 1 or 2 was it!? Asking a girl for help is already bullshit. Then he goes to a f*cking 2 timer……
and can’t even decide who he really love’s. Well lets go to the point if i ever meet someone like that makoto, im gonna beat him to the hospital and im making sure he cant ever walk again. I really really dislike this kind of peopple who are indecisive and with there Indecisiveness hurt other peopple’s feelings. If i coud go into the anime i woud have seriously killed him myself.
i was really disturbed by the ending of this episode… really… ive never been disturbed by ANYTHING in my life, but this anime did it… i keep thinking of how normal and inoccent Kotonoha used to be, now shez a psycho killer… theres only 1 person to blame and that Makoto, if he hadnt screwed around during his “MORON” stage he would of been happy with Kotonoha from the start!! i felt sorry for him dying as i had forgiven him once he learnt what he was doing was WRONG. But now there both dead and i want to be able to get a dvd of the series ASAP. but i know i wont see one for MONTHS,
overall: school days is awesome and i disturbed about 9 people with the last sequence of the 12 episode ^_^
Its is a really tragegic ending. Its not because I took pity on Matoko but the girls. However, if right from the begining Sekai did not done the so call “practice” with Matoko, I believe everything will be going smoothly. In the other hand, if Matoko really loves Kotonoha he would not did that either. This anime tells us alot of real stuff happening in our current world. People are getting more in a sense, irresponsible. We should be responsible in whatever we do.

It’s surely worst ending here than just makoto’s death.
now I know the objective why they make too many endings in game and why the creator use the worst ending on anime. they base so many ending for game for player who want players role ending to who, as well the anime use worst ending as the most middle by make all girls character relate on makoto.
**(worst is not about all makoto, sekai dead and remain kotonoha suffer on loving makoto and ex-kotonoha already know that makoto have no one in his heart!!
(however 2 of deads are really trouble character to kotonoha by drag her to relate with makoto’s stories)
“School Days was a rather uncomfortable”
Totally agree with you on that…
“It did a great job at creating drama.”
and that. I was practically drowning in that ocean of drama and would have died (correction: DID die) multiple times.
I’d have to give kudos to you on the recommendation part because it hits it right on the nail.
I guess i really did take School Days seriously, since it depicted something VERY close to reality. Loving the simple explanation for the lesson, but I felt it was more serious - I can be a righteous bastard sometimes [sry] ><.
What still bothered me was that after 12 eps, we have two people dead and one psychologically unstable as a result of this whole love triangle. Lesson for us all: make sure you mean whatever you say, and not just say to achieve your desires.
i mean WTH! i kno he deserved it but y did Sekai have to die! and that other chick lives. He played all them girls and they all mostly cared about him back THATS BULLSHI*. after seeing this i will keep my guard up for suducers like Makoto!!!!! I had no idea high schoolers were sooo perverted and miscaring. I’m in the 8th grade and if im goin to have to go through that then i might as well just not live. This anime show is too much but it does get us thinking that no ones ashamed of getting pregnant and dont care as much wut happened. Gosh i would like to meet the director.. give him a little sence in that NOGGIN
i think at the end that the boy should have got AIDS and every one who sleept whit him would have died and in the end Kotonoha would be the only one allive that would have teach use too wait whit haveing SEX !!!!!
i think at the end that the boy should have got AIDS and every one who sleept whit him would have died and in the end Kotonoha would be the only one allive that would have teach use too wait whit haveing SEX !!!!!
BECAUSE SEX IS JUST A GAME WHEN THERE IS NO REAL LOVE !!!!
Okay, I’m really shocked by this episode.Like kotohona gets wild and kills sekai but I think she deserved to die(refering to sekai) bcz she used and excuse like she was pregnant to separate kotohona and Makoto. Makoto deserved to dire bcz he lied to evryone so YEY MAKOTO is dead(lol) anyway kotohona rocks but she is crazy but still I like her lol.
