It took me a while to pick this series up for some reason. I decided late one night to download the first season and the OVAs all in one go (and I probably would have watched it all in one sitting if sleep wasn’t calling at the time). Some might look at this series and say “pedo” but you’d be better off ignoring them as this series is purely comical and slice-of-lice. That said, Ichigo Mashimaro entertained me from the beginning to the end and it left me wanting more.
I found myself loving the characters instantly. Nobue is one of the most awesome big sisters I’ve seen in an anime to date. Though she really needs to kick that smoking habit lol. Ana is my favorite of the four girls. There’s just something about her being a foreigner who somehow forgot how to speak English fluently and can only speak Japanese is just too hilarious. She’s also the cutest in my eyes. Chika is Nobue’s younger sister and my second favorite. She’s definitely the voice of reason among the group and the best cook. Her interactions with Miu are probably the best in the entire show. Matsuri is the soft-spoken and often clumsy one. I always get laughs from seeing her fall over the place or getting tricked by Miu somehow. Miu is easily the most annoying of the bunch but that’s not a bad thing. She contributes a lot to the comedy with her random outbursts, devious actions, and the way she lies face-first on the floor after getting beaten up by either Nobue or one of the other girls is just too damn funny.
The overall flow of the series is completely laid back. It’s like living a normal day and seeing the characters interact from morning to night. The music suits the series perfectly with lots of soft melodies. The animation isn’t groundbreaking but it is very easy on the eyes and is well-balanced with no scenes that are too bright or too dark. Everything is just so well put together that it’s hard to dislike this show. So I’d definitely recommend this show to anyone looking for some clean fun with the most lovable and memorable characters they will ever come across. Definitely pick up the DVDs as they come (it’s known as Strawberry Marshmellow in the West).
Overall Enjoyment Rating: 90/100

Best slice-of-lice comedy I have seen yet
