Kita ze Inbou! - キタぜ陰謀!

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei ep. 5

[ Episode 5: Removing Toxins and Stains ]

No introductions this time but despair is still present!

This show never fails at making me want to fall out of my chair in laughter. There are so many things in this episode that I might have to come back a few times to edit it all of my thoughts. Anyways, let’s cut right to the chase then. The main themes of this episode are social status and the process/results of rehabilitation. Firstly, social status. In the world today there are so many people living above their actual place in society. There were perfect examples of this present in the episode (especially when Chiri was putting her classmates in their place) even if they did sound silly or were just for hilarity factor. I can bring up examples of my own as well such as: Why buy an iPhone if all you’re going to do with it is send and receive calls? Why buy a 3Ghz/1TB/4GB memory stacked computer if all you’re going to do with it is surf the net and chat on various messengers? Do you see where I’m coming from here? The fact is there are people out there that try to live above the level of where they actually are. There probably isn’t anything wrong with that but they should realize that they are at least.

Like Totali, I myself agree with Itoshiki’s view on self realization. It’s funny when NEETs start insulting other NEETs and the same applies in any other situation (such as the numerous anonymous on 4chan and the like). The second part of the episode is where a lot of the gold of this episode comes in. Firstly, there’s the blatant throw in your face about the second half being fanservice-filled. The random yet no random reason to go to a hot springs is present and the censors are there to silently screaming “HEY! There’s fanservice in your face but yet it isn’t there 100%!” This much is obvious when Kaere stepped out of the water with her wetsuit on and the other girls comment on expecting full frontal fanservice for the audience. Priceless. There’s also the detox and retox scenes that took place in the second half at the hot springs that highlight what happens to people who try to rehabilitate and along the way loses a bit of themselves (whether it is for good or bad). In Itoshiki’s case, at least least in the eyes of the girls present, his entire existence was detoxed and thus he was turned into nothingness (when in fact he was just at the bottom of the hot spring with Maria). Seeing the girls (in particular Kaere and Matoi) detoxed are especially a hilarious treat.

As for references this time around, they include: Getbackers, Lucky Channel (from Lucky Star), and some others I either can’t remember clearly or just didn’t pick up yet. That last scene before the ED was a major WTF though.

Lastly: “Or the number of hits on your blog”. That one made me laugh my ass off completely.
