Kita ze Inbou! - キタぜ陰謀!

School Days ep. 6

[ Episode 6: A Revealed Relationship ]

What’s this?! Makoto’s scum level has evolved to level 50!

Oh hell yes. The end of this episode was awesome. I’m sure I’m not the only one who heard that ominous music play out when Kotonoha found about the two backstabbers sucking face, among other sexual things. Now that Kotonoha knows about Makoto’s cheating and Sekai’s betrayal, I can only wonder what she’s going to do from now on. The next episode preview doesn’t reveal much either (”Festival/Christmas Eve” is pretty vague if you ask me). Well, at least the ending suggests that the anime may be on the path to a bloody end. ^^;

Man, Makoto’s idiocy keeps on leveling up that it even surprises me. He seemed to want two girls from the way he was reacting to Sekai’s suggestion of telling Kotonoha about them. It’s either that or he’s a really big coward. This much I think is proven when he has to lie to Kotonoha just so he can continue cheating. Makoto is probably going to get tired of Sekai sooner or later. Right now he’s only using her for physical contact and practically forces himself on her. Though, Sekai could do better to resist him…she’s not that smart though.

Lastly, Otome also likes Makoto. Give me a break.

What I’m wondering about this show is this: are we supposed to, on some level, identify with Makoto or something? Even I, trying to be charitable at the beginning of this series, lost whatever sympathy I had for Makoto by this episode certainly. Characters don’t have to be likable necessarily to work as protagonists–it’s enough to be believable and have relatable flaws, which is what I felt in episodes 1-3–but dang. Makoto is a classic cad and player, a type we don’t see that often in anime romances as lead characters. I wonder if that’s why the hatred for him is so intense in the fan blogosphere at the moment? I think most of us can often identify with being too nice, shy, or indecisive, which is the typical harem lead. The sheer callousness and take-for-grantedness of Makoto seems galling and alien by comparison.

I think I’ll be writing a post on some of these thoughts, actually. Stay tuned. :)

Meh, I could identify with him the 1st episode, but since then he has managed to become my most hated anime character of all time.

This is pretty much the hardest show ever for me to watch.
I keep having to restrain myself from hitting my laptop and breaking it, because of Makoto’s idiotic actions…
I’m sitting 3 metres away from the screen, but even then I still charge towards the screen in rage every now and then. ;)
My stress-ball is having a really tough time when I watch School Days, same for some poor couch cushion I keep having to punch, imagining it’s Makoto’s face. ;)

Well, at least we still have Setsuna(=

Seems to be some kind of error, Leon.

Well, at least we still have Setsuna as an intelligent character, I’m hoping for her to set Sekai straight. Hikari is also pretty normal, though I don’t approve of her choice in men. ;)
But her back just looks so damn sexy in the OP, I can’t get mad at her. :p

“Makoto used attract on foe Sekai.”
    It’s super effective.

It is rather clear that animator already knew that many were hoping to see Makoto bleed even before the 1st anime episode aired, and they are playing along to that tune. Most people who knows about the game is expecting to see some blood at the final episode now, and I suspect that the animators will throw as much twist as possible regarding whose blood it will be, with some chance of no blood.

@Mike: I honestly don’t know. To be honest, I can’t identify with his character whatsoever. In my highschool days (which was about five years ago) I had a lot of friends throughout all grades and none of us ever behaved like this guy. We were always courteous and respected the girls in our classes and outside of school as well. And I agree with the characters not being likeable to be able to work. Makoto is a loser, that much is certain, but it’s good writing if you can make someone feel disgust or (by some miracle lol) sympathy for him.

@Ravage: LOL, I love the pokemon reference. :P

I know where you’re coming from while watching this show though. Soo many times I wanted to punch my screen because of the level of idiocy Makoto has. Don’t even get me started on the whole “practice” BS that he and Sekai started. That’s one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever heard of to date.

@maglor: Yeah, they’re really making it seem like blood will spill at the end. I hope they’re not just stringing along the fans just so they can pull a fast harem ending to piss them off at the end lol.
