Hmm. What can I say for the opening of this entry? Well, the first thing would be: WATCH THIS MOVIE NOW! It took me a while to watch this wonderful film because of real life issues and time constraints and now that I’ve finally sat down and viewed it I can honestly say that this is one of the best animated movies I’ve laid my eyes on (and I’ve seen a lot). It really does deserve all of the awards and nominations that it received since it was released. The film is a wonderful package of comedy and drama which really should not be missed!
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo possesses an excellent plot, a great cast of characters, superb character development, adorable animation, and a memorable soundtrack. Usually not all of those things are done with such consistent [high] quality but this movie executes all of those things flawlessly. The concept of time and the method of travel used by Makoto was quite simple yet I found it to be brilliant. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting her to literally be leaping through time lol.
Speaking of Makoto, her character is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. Her development throughout the entire film was a joy to watch. From watching her using her time leaping abilities for selfish reasons to her using them for important events. She was such a believable character and much needed departure from the usual annoying female leads of most current shows. Auntie Witch was also an intriguing character who I wished was more involved in the movie a bit (I’m aware that she was the protagonist of the novel which takes place 20 years prior to Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo). I also have to say that I didn’t expect the twist of Chiaki being both a time leaper or a person from the future. That genuinely shocked the hell out of me. Of course with such a revelation it only hinted at a not-so-totally-happy ending. However, I can say that I was really satisfied with the ending.
So in short if you haven’t seen this film yet then do yourself a favor and do so. Right now would be a great time. Now I’ll be going to bless my ears with the wonderful soundtrack.

nice entry… just watched it around 36 hours ago… like you mentioned, it really deserves the awards it received… it makoto was also a very believable character… i could imagine myself doing the stuff she did with the time leaping power… was disappointed that about how chiaki left… he didn’t even give her a goodbye kiss… and although its only been 36 hours since i watched it i need a rewatch soon… maybe because its almost happy ending could counter the sadness that byoukosu 5 cm has brought to me after just having watched byoukosu…
Yeah, I really thought Chiaki was going to kiss her only to have him whisper in her ear. What the hell was that? D:
Wow, Leon… I didn’t expect to see this from you. I’m slightly disappointed that I didn’t put mine up before because I had wanted to for a while, but looks like you’ve already done that.
That’s excellent. Still put it up though. It’s a good chance to have two views present on this wonderful film.
At this very moment, I’m listening to OST of tokikaki.
God, I fucking loved this movie. The scene When she goes back trough time for the last time, it makes me cry. Every time.

I really like this movie… I think there is a deeper theme than romance or sci-fi in Toki-Kake…
