[ Episode 1: Goodbye, Zetsubo Sensei ]
Is life only full of despair? Or is there a glimmer of hope in all things?

I read a bit of the manga a week or two before the series aired and I began to wonder just how SHAFT and Shinbou would approach the series. I wasn’t worried but rather intrigued on what they’d do and tried to think about it. Well, that didn’t work at all. The first episode brings to the table a very high production value. Of course this means that the animation was gorgeous and the directing was just awesome (which should be consistent because, well, it IS SHAFT and Shinbou at work here). The music was pretty decent and some of the best I’ve heard in the new season. The OP and ED were very good. I especially found myself really getting into the OP song. The sequences were quite…unique (I can’t imagine what else I can describe them as right now).
Itoshiki and Fuura are great when apart or together. They seem to drive the majority of the series but the secondary characters are pretty decent as well, especially the guidance counselor and Kitsu (the anally retentive girl). There are still a few we haven’t been introduced to yet and some that didn’t get enough screen time in this episode but there are still eleven more episodes to go for that to be done. The jokes are really good but I’m not sure if everyone will get them at first. The blackboard antics are worth pausing the episode and looking at because there’s one message that’s bound to make you go “what the hell” or just make you chuckle. Also, the theme of despair in this series is just hilarious despite some of the subject matter (you have to give it to Itoshiki and Fuura for making it all possible).
I can’t wait to see more.

What’s with the censoring? o_o
I have absolutely no idea what the hell they were thinking with their censoring methods. lol
It’s different, gotta give them that. More and more shows are having fun with censors. It’s a good trend.
I prefer my girls uncensored. That’s all I have to say on that.
The cotton swab got me hot.
The sensei’s moans…yes. She’s pretty interesting herself lol.
