Let’s take a trip with Michiru into the moody world of bishes and…
Z-Z-Zombies!
[ Opening Sequence ]

The OP is going to take a while to grow on me. I think. Maybe. I don’t find the music or the lyrics to be that good but they aren’t that bad either. I mean, I’m certain I’ve heard worse openings before…I think.

Hmmm. I don’t know how to go about my impressions properly with this show. The beginning is pretty much a predictable opener aside from the future incident that shows Michiru (voiced by Kuwashima Houko) dying/dead. Michiru [literally] runs into two bishie warriors: Shito and Chika (played by Sakurai Takahiro and Suzumura Kenichi, respectively). Michiru of course is beyond clumsy and quite soft-spoken. Later on after fainting she bumps into the two bishies again and sees them exchanging hands. No seriously, they literally took off each other’s hands and reattached them. That’s…an interesting way of fighting if I do say so myself. It seems that their hands give them different weapons. One materializes a sword and the other a gun. Okay, fair enough. Anyways from there on she is forcibly carried to Z-Loan where she meets the people Shito and Chika work for. They apparently kill zombies to help pay the debts they owe to live in their living bodies (they already died before).

Now, Michiru has a special ability called Shinigami Eyes. No it’s not exactly the same like those in Death Note. Michiru can see rings around people’s necks. These rings start out very light in color and as the person’s eventual death approaches they turn pitch-black. Interesting concept. I can only wonder where her character will go from here because she doesn’t seem to be able to do anything aside from seeing these rings. Well, apparently she’s supposed to die according to the beginning of the episode, the ending where we see her ring appear around her neck, and in the preview. If she does die then that means she’ll have no other choice but to work for Z-Loan. I would think that working there would grant her some powers but who knows. Maybe Chika and Shito are exceptions. Maybe not.

Animation-wise, it’s not going to win any awards yet but it’s not bad at all. Then again, not much happened this episode for the animation to be fully judged so I guess I’ll wait until episode two for that evaluation. The art itself is pretty decent as seen with the character designs. The only design that really sticks with me is Michiru’s though. The music isn’t anything special but it isn’t bad at all. The background music matches mood of the show perfectly and is one of the strong points of the show so far. This episode didn’t really have any action either. Unless you want to call fighting a demon dog that got defeated with extreme ease “action”. Sooner or later I hope something comes along that kicks their asses around, otherwise it wouldn’t be too exciting. Anyways, I’ll see if I’ll continue blogging this after another episode or two.
[ Ending Sequence ]

The ED is way better than the OP. I’ll probably grab the single for this when it comes out.

the animation goes weird a few times but overall this is a pretty good episode. the character types of the two guys seems a little messed up though…
Yeah, their characters seem a bit…quirky. It seems like I’ll need an episode or two to get used to their character types.
I was kind of hoping she’d stay alive. If I were her, I’d just die out of spite those bastards.
Actually, you’re right. The first episode was extremely lacking in action… all they did was kill that dog. A… DOG. D:
Yeah, that was disappointing. :/
Well, it seems they’ll make up for it with the second episode.
