Kita ze Inbou! - キタぜ陰謀!

Summer 2007 is here! Leon’s Top Summer Season Picks!

Another season, another series of anime to browse through. This summer doesn’t have a lot of shows to overwhelm a person but there are a few that should be seen. As for myself, I’m probably going to give most things a try but will probably only stick with a few of the ones I outline here. Though, I honestly can’t say which one’s I’ll be blogging for sure since I have this odd trend of saying one thing and doing the other and an additional more of another thing. So yeah, let’s just dive into this thing but before that do remember to check out AndrewLB’s Summer 2007 wiki for a complete listing of the shows and their air dates and times.

Let’s rock.

  • Synopsis/Summary:

  • The village of Hinamizawa has a population of 2000. Here, the sounds of cicadas can be heard in the late evening. Though at a first glance the village seems normal, however, here is where lies a horrible secret which the villagers try to keep secret from newcomers. The curse of Oyashiro-sama. Unusual murders have been occurring ever since the dam construction plan. Is it a coincidence or part of a plot taken place.

  • Ramblings/Thoughts:

  • I goes without saying that I’ll be watching this. I absolutely loved the first season and I’m quite sure I’ll be feeling the same with this sequel.

    - Chances of Watching: Beyond 100%
    - Chance of Blogging: *see above*

  • Synopsis/Summary:

  • Baccano is Italian for noise, but Narita translates it as “stupid commotion.” Each of the stories in the series involves several unrelated plots intersecting and crossing each other as events spiral farther and farther out of control. Immortal alchemists, mafia operated speakeasies, and many other elements of pulp fiction mashed together for a world straight out of the movies.

  • Ramblings/Thoughts:

  • Mafias? The 1930’s? Oh, I’m there. Definitely. Having seen the trailer, the presentation of this show is going to be pretty damn sharp. From what I managed to taste from the atmosphere, this one is most likely gunning to immerse you into its world from the very first episode. The music also sounds pretty good and seems to fit the the era the series takes place in. Apparently it’s format is going to be a series of one-shots that either have no relation or accumulate at the end (I think it’s the former…). Either way, I’m definitely going to be watching this one when it airs.

  • Synopsis/Summary:

  • Based on the manga by PEACH-PIT, serialised in G-Fantasy.

When a human is marked to die, a faint gray line that is invisible to most appears around their neck. As time passes, that ring becomes darker and darker, until it is eventually black, and that person dies. Kita Michiru has an unusual gift, she posses “Shinigami eyes,” which allow her to see these rings. When Michiru notices that two of the boys in her Class, Akatsuki Chika and Tachibana Shito not only have rings, but that they`re jet black, they reveal to her that the were supposed to die in a tragic accident six months ago. With the help of the Zombie Loan loan office, they were given a second chance at life, should they be able to pay for their debt by doing the work of Shinigami and killing malicious zombies. They petition Michiru to assist them in their efforts, and she finds her everyday life changing dramatically.

  • Ramblings/Thoughts:

  • This sounds like it could be interesting. I find it interesting already that Michiru has Shinigami Eyes similar to a few of the DEATH NOTE characters. I’m guessing she isn’t screwed like them though. That is, having her lifespan sliced in half. I actually have a bit of the manga on me but I’m not sure if I should take a look at it or went until the show the airs. Well, whatever I do I’ll be looking forward to watching this one.

  • Synopsis/Summary:

  • The story takes place in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

In spring, a mysterious student transfers to Magami Academy. His name is Hiyu Tatsuma. Then, he meets Horaiji Kyoichi of the kendo club, Daigo Yuya of the wresting club, Sakurai Komaki of the kyudo (Japanese archery) club, and Misato Aoki who is the student leader, as if they were attracted by something. Being influenced by Ryumyaku or Dragon Vein, which became active suddenly, they are awakened as “persons who posses powers”. Since that day, monsters called “Oni” appear and begin to assault Tokyo. Also, those who use evil power to control Oni appear. To protect Tokyo from them, Tatsuma and his friend stand up to fight. Then, they have to face their destiny….

  • Ramblings/Thoughts:

  • I’m seriously behind on this but I’ll be catching up to it before the second season airs. But yeah, it goes without saying I’ll be watching the second season as well.

  • Synopsis/Summary:

  • Based on the fully animated game by 0verflow infamous for its violent scenes.

A shy and unconfident teenager has become very accepting at only stealing glances at a cute girl as they ride the same trolley each morning on their way to their high school. At least until Saionji Sekai surprises Itou Makoto and chances to get a peek at a photo-snap of the beautiful Katsura on his cell-phone. After evilly teasing Mokoto about his forlorn crush, Sekai offers to support him in his romance. So after many Makoto-pep-talks and lots of scheming, the three become close friends. Close enough that Makoto braves asking Katsura out on date. And she agrees. Later that day, Makoto finds a quiet moment express his thanks for all support that Sekai has offered him, and makes clear his intent on finding away to reply her kindness. But he is totally unprepared and very surprised at the reward that Sekai has chosen. Sekai steals a long kiss from his lips, before breaking away to run for the trolly. Sekai turns and wishes Makoto well on his date.

  • Ramblings/Thoughts:

  • I’ve heard many things in regard to the game. One of the things that’ll probably carry over to the anime is the fact that the main character is allegedly one of the most pathetic male main characters in fictional existence. I don’t know if any of those bad/violent endings will make it into the show but I”ll still be looking forward to it nonetheless. Though, the anime is supposed to have three extra episodes so maybe those can contain alternate endings….

  • Synopsis/Summary:

  • What if, when watching the stars outside the window…
What if, when writing in your secret diary at the end if the day…
…A mysterious light suddenly falls from the sky…

Tsuwabuki Masaharu, or Haru as is friends like to call him, is your normal middle school student. Now in his second year, his friends push him to speak with his classmates whom he have yet to speak to, but this was still a difficult thing for Haru due to his clumsy nature.

One afternoon, his life met with a 180° during a strange encounter in the hallways of Hoshigaoka School. During that fateful encounter, he accidentally drinks a magical potion which transforms him into a stuffed animal sheep during the night!

Through later events, Haru learns that in order to return to his original self, he needs to collect “star droplets” that fall from the sky. However, being that his innards are now made of cotton, he will need the help of a “special person,” little did he know that special person was someone from his class.

Living a double life between his day self and his sheep form “Yuki-chan”, page one of his story, her story, and the story of nanatsuiro drops begins~

  • Ramblings/Thoughts:

  • One of the main reasons why I’m going to watch this is because of the character designs which are done by none other than Noizi Ito, the same lovely lady that has illustrated Shakugan no Shana and Suzumiya Haruhi. I’m not sure about the story as yet but then again premises can expand into completely unexpected and unknown directions at times.

  • Synopsis/Summary:

  • Twenty years from now, in early summer at Amizawa Village…

18-year-old Ebihara Chinami emits electrical waves when she becomes distressed. Due to this, she cannot use electronics such as PCs and cellphones very well. Her power is so strong that it nearly crashed the plane her family was on by causing instrument malfunctions.

Her power leads her to transfer schools frequently. As usual, on the first day of school, Chinami is a little nervous, causing her classmates’ cellphones to glitch and electronics to react to her.

The more nervous she becomes, the worse the situation gets, so she begins to take notes on where and how badly the electronics react to her.
She eventually meets Kotaro from the science club, who is interested in experimenting on her; Yumi, a classmate and shrine maiden with the same power as she; and Sonomi. They refer to the power as “TYPE-E.”

What they don’t know is that a secret organization is after Chinami’s power.

There will be a moment when many lives will be saved by Chinami’s power. However, at the same time, someone will be watching her…

  • Ramblings/Thoughts:

  • For some reason, I find myself quite interested in this. When I first saw the title, of course I thought CODE GEASS but I knew the two weren’t related. The premise sounds pretty decent though. I mean come on, a girl that can render electronics useless when her emotions run high? That’s a mix of disaster (the good kind) and hilarity waiting t happen.

  • Synopsis/Summary:

  • In Japan’s near future, grotesque monsters called “Mushi” appear. They infect people, giving them supernatural powers. “Mushitsuki”, the hosts of the Mushi, are held in fear, loathed, and abandoned by society… or they are killed by the Mushi.

In the midst of this, high school student Kusuriya Daisuke encounters a girl on his way to the school he has just transferred to.

Somehow, he and the girl, Anmoto Shiika, standing there at the railroad crossing, find themselves attracted to each other. As if recognizing that which is missing from within themselves in the other, their relationship deepens rapidly.

However, Shiika is a fugitive from GARDEN, a secret asylum for Mushitsuki. Tokkan, or the Special Environment Preservation Agency, which is responsible for finding Mushitsuki and confining them in the asylum, orders Kakko, their top agent and strongest Mushitsuki, to hunt down Shiika.

There are also people who fight against Tokkan. The resistance, Mushibane, seeks out those Mushitsuki who have been ostracized by society. Their female leader, Lady Bird, orders the resistance members to save Shiika before Tokkan finds her.

The fights between Mushitsuki and Mushitsuki over Shiika disrupts everyday life. In these fights which surpasses one’s imagination, young people lose their lives in vain.

However, the Mushitsuki have a fate that they cannot escape from. The Mushi eventually eats the host’s dreams instead of giving him or her supernatural powers, killing the host.

  • Ramblings/Thoughts:

  • The story has potential those the scope of it makes it seem like it’ll be at least 26-episodes when in reality it’s only 12-episodes long.

    - Chances of Watching: High
    - Chance of Blogging: Moderate

Other series that I’m interested in and will check out are: Doujin Work (actually I should have added this to the main features but I got lazy), Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho, Moetan, Mononoke (I haven’t seen Ayakashi - Japanese Classic Horror yet though), Tetsuko no Tabi (Youko might be blogging this), and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. I also think it goes without saying that I’m anticipating the remaining two episodes of Code GEASS.

Just curious, but do you ever wonder why everything you mention gets a chance of high? *hint hint*

    2. Leon June 27th, 2007 6:07 pm

Probably because I don’t like to label things as “low”. *coughsandlaughs*

    3. BlueCheese June 27th, 2007 8:30 pm

Yeah I was wondering that, you said that you’d only stick with a few outlined here. Lol, that’s a few? As expected of Prince “subete wo miru” Leon lol.

    4. Youko June 27th, 2007 9:20 pm

You’re missing my point. Since this is your “top” picks, that would obvious mean there’s a high chance of watching them. There’s no point in leaving that when the title is obvious.

It’s kinda like saying “The Top 12 Episodes of Lucky☆Star Thus Far” yet there are obviously only 12 episodes at the moment.

    5. BlueCheese June 27th, 2007 9:40 pm

Lol yeah true. You gonna do a preview as well Youko? ;)

    6. Leon June 27th, 2007 10:20 pm

Dammit, manly men don’t need clear reasons to do stuff. >:3

    7. Lord Yu June 29th, 2007 1:11 am

I wonder how nuts School Days will be. I hope it has the blood gushing fun the game had. Oh how I wish I could read Japanese so I could play the game. It had animated scenes! Oh how I wish I could play it. *groans*

    8. Leon June 29th, 2007 12:49 pm

It’s just a guess on my part but those three extra episodes could be used for alternate endings (I’ve said that a few times before elsewhere I think). So yeah, it may be possible for the bloody endings to show up. It may be unlikely but the chances aren’t 0%.

    9. Youko June 30th, 2007 1:12 am

That is if the rating is high so I have doubts…

Oh gosh, I’ve ne’er heard “manly” and “men” in one sentence before. I’m guessing you’re the only kind of our species yeah? With your damn triceps and quads and your XBOX.

@Blue: I’d gladly do one, but Leon already made this. If I had done it first, you would be expecting a WHOLE LOT of lows.
