Claymore ep. 8 ~ Awakening

[ Scene 08: Awakening ]

Despite what occurred in this episode: I still love Priscilla’s character to death. :P

This episode was overflowing with unadulterated action and over-the-top awesomeness. Seeing each Claymore release their Yoki one after the other filled me up with a thrill I can’t accurately describe in words. What I can say about how I felt after watching this episode is this: Claymore continues to set new standards for battle sequences in animation.

Priscilla, Priscilla. My dear Priscilla. She’s barely a woman yet hardly a child but she certainly hovers somewhere between the two. On one hand you have a young adult who strongly believed in the rules of the organization she belonged too and would stop at nothing to enforce them. On the other hand, you have a young girl who lost her entire family and had to kill her Youma-infested father. She has certainly led a hard life. One so bad that she seemed to carry the trauma with her up until now.

When I first read the manga and arrived at this point, I was absolutely shocked. Priscilla was so swift at disposing of Teresa that one barely has time to let it all sink in. Not only that but she proceeds to kill Sophia and Noel and fatally wound Irene. Holy crap, the girl has too much power in her hands! Like I said earlier, I still like Priscilla even though she killed Teresa (who I like just as much). I wished we had seen more of her (Priscilla’s) character before this fight started because I think she would’ve had a lot of cute and clumsy scenes allotted to her.

Sadly, after this episode it’ll be quite some time before we see Priscilla again. Though, I wouldn’t worry since a lot of new characters are ahead and I’m quite looking forward to seeing all of them in their animated forms.

Last words for this episode: Priscilla in her human form is cute but in her Awakened form she is sizzling hot. :P

As for the action, expect it to get even better, if the manga is any guide. The climax of the Slashers arc, which begins in the next episode, should be incredible. Especially as Claire turns out to have mastered one of Theresa’s own favored techniques.

Visually, I’m pleased with the way the character designs have transferred from manga to anime. Irene looked even more intense, and Awakened Being Priscilla looks considerably better. (Norihiro Yagi had an odd way of illustrating Priscilla’s arms, but the anime version makes a fix.)

Yeah. I have to say I liked the way they touched up certain scenes. I was wondering how the thing with the arm was going to be handled but I’m surprised that they pulled it off so well.
