Isshukan Inbou Digest 01: 4/22 – 4/28

Welcome to the first edition of the Isshukan Inbou Digest (much thanks to Youko for helping me with the title)! What is it you ask? Well, it’s quite simple. This is a method for me to share my thoughts on shows that I watch but don’t blog regularly or at all. The number of shows will fluctuate depending on the week but that’s not something to be concerned about I think. Oh and the shows will either be from the actual week or from previous weeks as well (basically stuff that I just got to watching). Well anyways, now that those explanations are out of the way I’ll just get right down to it and start the digest!
Ookiku Furikabutte ep. 1
Kaibutsu Oujo ep. 1-2
Nagasarete Airantou ep. 3
Toward the Terra ep. 2-3
Naruto: Shippuuden ep. 11
sola ep. 1-3
Ookiku Furikabutte ep. 1

I went into this series not really knowing what to expect. I’ve heard of the manga winning some awards but I didn’t really know much about it aside from that bit of knowledge and also liking baseball to an extent I decided to give it a whirl. This was quite the pleasant surprise for me. The atmosphere of this series really pulled me in and the characters are pretty funny. Mihashi, although a timid one and unsure of himself is a pretty good lead in my opinion and I have to say that Maria, the team manager, is just freaking awesome. She’s yet another strong woman to appear in the spring anime season and is quite impressive in her enthusiasm, strength, and abilities.
Abe is another decent character as well. With his help I can see Mihashi going quite far in pitching. It seems like Maria will be responsible for helping to rebuild/change Mihashi’s timid personality which will be interesting to see. Surprisingly enough, there really wasn’t that much about baseball shown in the first episode and by that I mean explanations or long rants about certain rules and such. Though I don’t really have a problem with such things as long as they’re appropriate for the scene I just found it interesting that this series doesn’t seem to be dumping baseball information on the viewer in tons.
Kaibutsu Oujo ep. 1-2

Now this was rather…interesting. To be honest I picked it up mainly because I thought Princess looked quite good. In fact she is but after watching this she’s gained even more points because of her personality! Her story seems interesting though nothing much is revealed aside from her being a princess and that she just arrived in the city. I don’t really have much to say about Hiro but I suppose I can say that he’s quite the brave kid. Sacrificing his own life to save Princess and then being resurrected by her and saving her life again in a fight. His sister is funny too and I can’t ignore the size of her breasts. Why? It’s blatantly obvious. That and they bounce at the most opportune times. Anyways, the episode was okay though I didn’t really like the fighting scenes that much because of the ‘frame-fighting’. I hope that changes in future episodes. I can say though that I like the twisted nature of this series, especially that of the Princess.

Episode two was better than the first I think. What’s up with Hiro dying so frequently? This guy reallly is a sucker for death. That said, I wonder why Princess always grants him life again. I’m sure she needs servants but why Hiro? I suppose she finds his nature quite intriguing given the type of person she has been portrayed to be so far. The bout with the invisible man was fun. It really did make sense for them to wait until dark to hunt him down since no one would be able to see the other…though as evidenced by Princess almost splitting Hiro in half that could also be a disadvantage lol. Still, I’m not sure where this is going just yet. Though I do wonder why these things are after Princess’ life and why any of her siblings would want her dead.
Lastly, I love the ED. ALI Project FTW!
Nagasarete Airantou ep. 3

LOL. Oh man, I love this show for all of the nonsense they throw into it. I also like the manga as well but seeing all of the humor animated takes it to another level. This episode made me laugh so much. Seeing how unused Ikuto is to manual labor made me shake my head and laugh at the same time but then again you can’t really blame the guy because the girls on the island have probably been doing such tasks for years. Also, things such as vegetables are abnormal compared to the size Ikuto is familiar with.
Oh, and those…mushrooms. I’m quite sure that I’m not the only one who noticed their phallic-like nature…right? Seeing Suzu pluck them left me in state of continuous laughter, tears (from laughing), and “WTF-ness”. I also liked the er…DS that made an appearance at the beginning of the episode.
Toward the Terra ep. 2-3

Jomy…has been a bit ungrateful, hasn’t he? All he’s going on about is not being Mu and not thanking them for saving his ass from being exterminated. He claims that he might have passed his adulthood exams if they didn’t intervene but I don’t think so. Somehow he probably would have still been detected as a Mu. Though, I do wonder what his disability is since he’s a Mu. Some are mute, missing body parts and blind…so what’s his deal? Or maybe he’s the “perfect” Mu? Anyway, I hope he recovers from this shock and confusion soon and realizes that he no longer has a normal life to go back to.

Episode 3…Jomy continue to throw his annoying behavior around on Leo. Seriously, his blaming others really doesn’t help the situation he’s in at all. I understand that he’s upset about being pulled out of his comfort zone but it couldn’t be helped from what I’ve seen. Well, hopefully he comes to accept things now that his power has fully awakened though he’s in trouble as he is now. I also hope Leo isn’t dead because he’s such a nice guy and doesn’t deserve such a cheap death…
Naruto: Shippuuden ep. 11

[Enjoyment Value: 8/10]
Nothing really happened in this episode aside from Sakura treating and eventually curing the poison that Kankuro was infected with. Meanwhile, Gaara is getting the life sucked out of him by the Akatsuki and Team Gai is still on the way (didn’t Gai and Lee say that they’d make it to the Sand in a day or so? LOL). My eyes really stuck to Sakura in this episode for some reason…maybe because she looked pretty cute with her hair tied up.
sola ep. 1-3

[Overall Enjoyment Value: 8.5/10]
This series is pretty decent. Though for now I really don’t know where it’s going. So far I get that Matsuri can’t go out in the sunlight because she’ll be hurt and Yorito loves the sky (who of course has already made the currently impossible promise to Matsuri that he’ll show her the sky someday). I really don’t know what’s up with the sky in this series but it either has a symbolic purpose or has a more involved, mysterious purpose behind it. The bits of action in episodes 1-2 were pretty good while episode 3 was more slice-of-life-ish which I also tend to like a lot. I really don’t know what I’d classify sola as at the moment but I won’t worry over it too much since I’m too busy enjoying it at the moment. ^_^
