LIAR GAME ep. 2

[Episode 2]
[Enjoyment Value: 9.5/10]
After winning the first round, Nao is pulled into yet another round of LIAR GAME…

[Summary]
As time runs up and the deadline of 5pm arises, Fujisawa has won the first round of LIAR GAME…or so he thinks. When the representative from comes to count the money he celebrates but soon hears another ring at the door and is approached by three women. They claim to be the representatives from the LGT. Fujisawa watches as the man from before exits his house and he immediately panics and runs to the room where the money was stored, only to discover that Shin’ichi now has the cash in hand and he proceeds to give it to Nao. Shin’ichi explains how they won and reveals that he tricked Fujisawa by changing the ending date of the game from 6pm to 5pm.
After winning, Nao decides to give her winnings to her former teacher and since she has nothing remaining Shin’ichi gives it to her to give to Fujisawa as well. Nao returns home with Shin’ichi and upon arrival discovers yet another package that introduces her to the second round of LIAR GAME. She discovers that she has the has two options now: to continue or retire. However, to retire she needs to give back half of her prize money, which would’ve been 50 million yen but she cannot. After some scenes she decides to go to the site of the second round with her police officer friend so that she can decline. However, she is tricked by the officer who happens to be an undercover agent of the LGT. She’s escorted inside by the three women from before and after getting a pin with a gem on it she enters a room filled with persons who won the first round. Shin’ichi arrives to aid Nao in the second round and is just in time to hear the rules of the second round of LIAR GAME. The name of the game: Minority Vote.

[Thoughts]
I love this show so freaking much. Shota’s character, Shin’ichi, is just so cool that it can’t be denied. He really does live up to his name of being a genius swindler. I was concerned for a while as to how he was going to get the money away from Fujisawa but didn’t quite expect the ending result. He got the money from Fujisawa with virtually only a minute remaining. Now that’s what I call cutting it freaking close!
I have to say though, Nao is much too soft a character so far. She gave up her share of the 100 million yen because she felt sorry for her former teacher (and then Shin’ichi chose to based on a technicality >_>). Honestly, she shouldn’t have given him a single yen since I’m sure he wasn’t going to do the same for her if he had won. Giving up her money also led to her not being able to withdraw from the second round later on as well. Though I suppose that’s not so bad since we wouldn’t have more LIAR GAME to look forward to if she got out so early and easily.
I also could only laugh at how Nao got tricked into going to the second round. Who would’ve known that the police officer was also in on the game? I sure didn’t have a clue or suspicion of the guy. Well, aside from that gold tooth of his anyways.
The new game they have to play just made me go “WTF” more than a few times. Now there are 22 players involved and the name of the game is “Minority Vote”. Err…okay. I don’t quite get the game yet but I have no other choice but to wait until the next episode is out to hear the rules of the game. All I know for now is that I can’t wait to see how Shin’ichi and Nao get out of this one.

I agree, Nao is way to kind for her own good, giving her half of the money to the teacher after all that had happened. Though i found that the way Shinichi got the 200million a bit too… un-exciting. I was initally thinking he might be a master pick-locker and would just crack open the safe with one try.
^^;
Can’t wait for the 3rd ep, seems like Shinchi is actually going to take part of the game instead of being Nao’s sidekick (atleast, i think so, since he has his own name tag >_> )
The guy in the mask creeps me out big time
^^;
Nao, while I like her character, needs to toughen up a bit. Frankly, I wasn’t going to give that guy a single yen. I wouldn’t have anything to feel guilty for either because both participants already knew the rules and the potential outcomes of the game.
Well, anyway, hopefully she won’t do the same thing in the second round. >_<
The police officer wasn’t part of the game. It’s more like he’s part of the organization.
@Lock
Shinichi didn’t have a name tag. So we don’t know whether he’ll be joining or just be with Nao.
For a big organization, they sure have a weak security. Allowing Shinichi to go there without an invitation.
@Endz
Yea, true, i thought this was the name tag:

but now that i’m thinking about it, it could’ve just been a part of his jacket…
>_>
but yea, just wanted to state my opinion and what i thought, even thou i might be wrong
=D
@Endz: When I said “in on the game” I didn’t really mean in the game itself but an “undercover agent of the LGT” like I said in my summary.
if i were nao, i wouldve given the 100 mil back to fujisawa as well =( i mean, think of what he’s been through. sure he didnt think twice about taking nao’s money, but the events prior to that probably drove him to the edge. i felt sorry for him the whole episode, knowing he was bound to lose
@Danny: Sure, his situation was pretty bad, but Nao would’ve been in a similar situation if she had lost. Not only that, because she gave up her money she couldn’t decline the second round and if she loses the second round (which most likely won’t happen) she still can’t pay the money back because she already gave it away.
I think it’s good to have a heart some times but this wasn’t one of those times (for me anyways).
The structure of the game doesn’t sound right to me. In the end, everything breaks even.
Here’s my theory:
There are 22 players.
Each player has a nametag worth 100 million yen(I’m guessing that’s BS). If you lose, you must give away your nametag AND pay 100 million that you won from the first game.
Fast forward to the end, with one player left.
They get 2.1 billion yen as prize money. If you count everyone else’s debt(100 million yen for each player), that also amounts 2.1 billion yen.
So basically everyone’s debt covers the winner’s prize money and the organization get’s their 100 million yen cut. But in reality, this is just money(in the form of a diamond) that they gave to players in the beginning.
So in the end, it all breaks even.
BUT, to leave the game for the 3rd round, they will require money to be paid back. Of course, I’m also presuming that their were actually people that left the game after the first round.
I still don’t see how the organization is making any profit since all of the money in use is their own money. In the end, you have to think of this game as a business, but I don’t see any profit anywhere.
If everyone just left the game after winning the first round, they’d be so broke.
Any comments?
As for the “Minority Vote” game, I guess it depends on the rules, but here’s my best guess.
In the game, everyone votes and the majority leaves. When they say “the minority lives on”, I think they mean that “all” minorities live on. So in the beginning, I think all people who share the most common vote will be eliminated and everyone else stays.
It gets more and more difficult to eliminate people as the game progresses, since fewer people are eliminated each round. The only countermeasure I can see is that they limited the number of choices as the number of people decreases.
In a way, I see this as a game of trust. If everyone just agreed to always vote on the same thing, there would never be a winner. BUT, if that were the case, then one person could vote the opposite choice and be the only person with that vote(and so everyone else would be eliminated since they are the majority). Of course, humans are greedy creatures so we can’t rely on the “everyone votes the same” strategy.
In fact, I think the “everyone votes the same strategy” would work best in the final rounds. But the hard part is getting to the final round, which I can’t seem to figure out a good way of doing. In the preview, the announcer did say that it’s not a game of luck.

leon, i dont think u can use the not being able to pay back idea as an argument, as that happened AFTER she gives the money back. from a viewers perspective, u might use it, but in her shoes, you wouldnt know you would have to participate in a second round. if i knew, of course I wouldnt have payed the guy back. i wouldve saved my own sorry ass with that money xD
True, it did happen after but I still have the other argument of not giving him squat since he’d do the same to me.
