[Thoughts]
You know, I’m not at all surprised that this first episode turned out to be as great as I thought it’d be. Having already read a good chunk of the manga I had expectations set within my mind whether I wanted to acknowledge them or not. That said, I felt as if the staff did a great job. Granted they deviated slightly with a chapter or so but it’s nothing that I’d get upset about. The animation is absolutely gorgeous. I can only hope MADHOUSE keeps it consistent. The music was wonderfully done from what I’ve heard so far. It makes for a creepy and chilling atmosphere that Claymore is all about.
Seeing Claymore in action actually reminded me of just how bloody of a series it can be. The fights are amazingly well animated and brings a lot of attention towards the action scenes. However, if there’s one thing about Claymore that I like is that manages to keep the action in check and focus on characters a bit more. Claire is a great character and it’ll be enjoyable to explore her personality and demeanor all over again now that her silent and cold self has movement and a voice (who Kuwashima Houko does really well). The boy following her isn’t at all afraid of her despite all other humans fearing the Claymore because of their half-human, half-Youma nature. Admiration on his part? Most likely. Though I personally think something more will grow out of their relationship in the future.
[Ending sequence]

ED: [Danzai no Hana~Guilty Sky] by Riyu Kosaka
The opening and ending fit Claymore’s feel perfectly. In my opinion, the ED is the best of the two. It absolutely freaking rocks.
I look forward to more Claymore being animated, especially since there are a few volumes of the manga that aren’t available in English so I’ll have a lot of new stuff to look forward to.

Agree about the animation quality – it’s beautifully stylish, and the fairytale look only serves to make the violence more shocking when it happens. As you say, I hope the quality doesn’t slip – I think if it does then with this style of artwork it will drop away from beautiful to very ugly in short order.
With regard to the boy, you said: “I personally think something more will grow out of their relationship in the future.”
Well if it does, I hope it’s a long way down the road, as I’m not into Shota.
From the screenshots it looks quite nice animation and action wise. The daemons and medieval theme has caught my attention but I think I’ll give this one a pass for now.
The animation was good most of the time, but I really really really didn’t like the background music used in the episode. At times it really made me want to put MPC on mute, yes it was that bad. OP and ED were good, though.
I didn’t like the artwork xD And I liked the OP better. But it was a decent first episode.
I’m not sure about Clare x Reki…that’s a bit odd. But I hope they become good friends.
Well, I’m not exactly expecting a romantic relationship but still I’d like to see something deep.
Yeah, I can deal with deep ^^
I liked the ending theme. Loved the animation… was a bit surprised at the character design (eyes) but still a great first episode. Looking forward to the next one.
I managed to find a link for those looking for the OP/ED:

Thanks for the link to the ED/OP too bad its only the rips from the anime. It would be great to hear the whole thing.
