Red Garden ep. 22 [END]

[Episode 22: Light]

[Enjoyment Value: 9/10]
[Overall series review: 85/100]

[Thoughts]

The best episode in the entire series. That’s the title this episode deserves. The war between the Animus and the Doral came to an end and it was a very satisfying one. Everyone gave a wonderful performance in this final episode but the ones that stood out were Kate (she has always been my absolute favorite), Lula, and Hervé. Kate thoroughly expressed her feelings while fighting against Hervé and didn’t once bat an eye in doubt (I loved her serious expressions a lot). Lula sacrificed herself to mortally wound Hervé and as such made a great contribution to the end of the war. As for Hervé, he had lost it ever since the episode began which I think is in part of him being so concerned about his sister.

Speaking of Hervé, one of the best and saddest highlights in this episode and probably in the entire series was when Hervé had to kill his sister and then he himself died. Granted, I never liked the guy but the scene itself was still tear-jerking. The same could be said when Lise disappeared into ashes. After all that suffering she endured she can finally rest. The ending itself is sort of odd but it was still great and I felt satisfied. Though I wonder what the girls are going to do now that they’ve awaken.

Now the wait is on for the OVA that will arrive in August (which I really have no idea what it’s going to be about). So far away. >_<

I hear the OVA will be quite far in the future and include 4 new girls and a guy or something but the girls are still alive, it’s called “Dead Girls”.

Anyway great series, I loved how episode 21 was a real calm before the storm type episode. With most of the last 5/6 episodes being much faster paced and so much happening it was great that they once again showed how the girls were dealing with their situation. The whole series was a great portrayal of emotion and character development.

Agreed on all points you listed Blue. :3

I especially loved the character development in the series. All of the girls were developed quite well and had no sudden overnight changes but rather smooth and gradual ones. GONZO did very well with this series and they deserve praise for it.

Also, I read something a few days ago that said what the OVA was about but I had forgotten. Now I’m wondering just how far in the future it’s going to take place…

Well that’s what I heard, (from comment here http://psgels.blogsome.com/2007/03/21/red-garden-22/)

The character development was especially good, just how the girls acted so normal. Strange thing to say but it was really true. Like I loved how Rachel saw the pointy shoes and suddenly thought about the practical uses lol. It’s hard to get character development right but they managed it, Hikaru no Go was a completely different series but character development in that was really good as well I thought.

You never can tell with Gonzo, most of their series aren’t great but the odd series they do is good, and unrelated butg they just love putting mecha’s in classical stuff lol (who would have thought anyone would do that with Romeo and Juliet…) I’m surprised they didn’t try it in NHK lol.
