Reideen Ep. 2

[Episode 2: The Legendary Warrior]
[Enjoyment Value: 8.5/10]
I think this episode was even better than the first. This episode ends the introductory phase of the series and the real plot will start with the next episode.
Oh and did I mention there were zombies? Zombies!
[Summary]

Junki still has no idea what’s going on and is promptly beaten by the scorpion-like robot. Next, we see Junki in the hospital doing fine with his mother and sister at his side. Junki notices the appearance of a symbol on his arm and apparently lost his father’s bracelet. Meanwhile, news about the two robots is spreading and investigations are being held. Later at night, Junk hears a strange noise and goes to investigate only to be attacked by zombie-like hospital workers that were somehow affected by the robots’ gel. He manages to escape with Taro and the help of a new friend. Meanwhile, the robot reactivates and heads for the nearby city. Junki, realizing the seriousness of the situation, calls upon Reideen to fight the robot once again. While battling, Junki remembers one of his dreams and calls upon one of Reideen’s weapons, The God Arrow. He fires the arrow and defeats the robot. Taro then asks Junki, after Reideen fades out, about the entire situation.
[Thoughts]

I was completely thrown by the appearance of the zombies. I mean seriously, who could’ve predicted that? Well anyways, I liked how this episode ended with Junki giving some thought into how to defeat the robot. His dreams sure did come in handy but I’d like to know why he’s having them and how he knew the name of Reideen’s weapon. That said, I’d like to know where Reideen’s origins are derived from as well.
There was no noticeable decline in animation quality from what I observed either. In fact, the CG of Reideen looked absolutely dazzling. I’m thinking they’re going to keep up this level of animation for quite a while (I expect no less from Production I.G.). The music was as good as it was in the first episode and I’d really like to get my hands on that theme that plays when Reideen fades in. It sounds pretty neat.
As for the rest of the episode, I think Shiori is a pretty cute girl. I’m not sure if she’s a possible romantic interesting for Junki (from the opening that role seems to be Akira’s) but she does seem to be a very good friend to come out all the way and visit him in the hospital. The next episode will introduce us to Akira who is now in Junki’s school. Who is she and what role will she have in Junki’s new life? We’ll have to wait and see.
Oh, and what is up with Junki’s clothes disappearing even after he exists Reideen? Weird….

Next Episode: Episode #3
> Akira!!!!!
